„Eine Datenübermittlung verletzt Bürgerrechte, missachtet das Europäische Parlament und leistet keinerlei Beitrag zur Bekämpfung der Ursachen des Terrorismus“, sagt Helmut Scholz, Mitglied des Parteivorstandes und Europaabgeordneter der LINKEN, zur heutigen Entscheidung der EU-Außenminister für Verhandlungen über die Weitergabe europäischer Bankdaten an US-Terrorfahnder. Er erklärt dazu:

Erneut haben sich die EU-Staaten bedingungslos und ohne jegliche Diskussion dem "Anti-Terror-Kampf" der USA angeschlossen. Die geplante Übermittlung von Bankdaten europäischer Bürgerinnen und Bürger an Behörden der USA widerspricht nicht nur Datenschutzvorgaben der EU und verletzt massiv das Bürgerrecht auf informationelle Selbstbestimmung, sie ist zur Bekämpfung der wahren Ursachen des internationalen Terrorismus völlig ungeeignet. Die Ausmerzung des internationalen Terrorismus kann und darf nicht über die Verletzung von Grund- und Bürgerrechten erfolgen. Zudem wird mit dem Datentransfer abermals die Position des Europäischen Parlaments zur Weitergabe personenbezogener Informationen an Einrichtungen und Behörden in den USA missachtet. So hat die große Mehrheit der Abgeordneten bereits 2004 wiederholt die Weitergabe von Flugpassagierdaten abgelehnt. Scharfe Kritik äußerten Parlamentarier auch an der im Jahr 2005 bekannt gewordenen Datenübermittlungen europäischer Banken an US-Behörden. Die jüngste Entscheidung des Rates ist ein schlechter Start für die Zusammenarbeit mit dem neu gewählten Europäischen Parlament.

Representatives of environmental groups gathered in front of the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) yesterday to urge the government to lower electromagnetic wave safety standards to a maximum of 1 milli-Gauss (mG).

The agency is considering lowering electromagnetic wave safety standards by 10 percent for “sensitive regions” such as schools, hospitals and residential areas, but the activists said that was not enough.

Meldungen zu Folge soll die Bundeswehr in Afghanistan jetzt auch dann mit Waffengewalt gegen Personen vorgehen dürfen, wenn diese sich zurückziehen. Bislang durften deutsche Soldaten nicht auf Flüchtlinge schießen. Dazu erklärt der Bundesgeschäftsführer Dietmar Bartsch:

Zu so einer Entscheidung kann nur kommen, wer sich in die Logik des Krieges begibt. Die deutschen Soldaten werden immer tiefer in den Sumpf des Krieges gezogen. Dieser Weg ist falsch. Für DIE LINKE ist der Abzug der Bundeswehr aus Afghanistan das einzig mögliche Zeichen für ein wahres Interesse am Frieden. DIE LINKE bleibt bei ihrer Forderung nach einem sofortigen Abzug der Bundeswehr aus Afghanistan und setzt sich für den zivilen Wiederaufbau ein. Das sture Festhalten an der Logik des Krieges verhindert, dass sich zivilgesellschaftliche Kräfte als Alternative durchsetzen können.

The MCA published the results of tests that it conducts on all such repeaters. However, they only say that the level is well within the established limits and do not give the measured field strength, not do they give the distance at which the measurements were taken and neither whether it is at street level or at rooftop level. What is the level of radiation that the people living next door are being exposed while on the roof? Is any tilt in the radiation pattern used and if so what is the angle? Is it different for different repeaters? What is the maximum power used at the repeaters when all channels are in use? What is the gain of the antennas? Whay is such information being hidden from the public?

Please can we have some more information about the harmful effects of such antennas. It is not something to be brushed off as of minor importance. I am truly concerned and would appreciate any body who would exert pressure to have them set up away from inhabited areas.

Plus a new peer reviewed Swiss study by Frei has shown that mobile phone masts exposure resulted in 32% exposure and mobile phones amounted to 29%, Dect cordless phone base stations 23%. This new study is very worrying as it demonstrates mobile phone masts expose the public to more radiation than mobile phones. You can choose to use a mobile, but what do you do if you live near a mast?

An international working group of scientists, researchers and public health policy professionals produced the 2007 BioInitiative report. The report provides detailed scientific information on health impacts when people are exposed to electromagnetic radiation hundreds or even thousands of times below the guidelines. The authors reviewed more than 2000 scientific studies and concluded that the existing public safety limits are inadequate to protect public health.

I suffered for many years with headaches, sleep problems and dizzy spells and was eventually diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 38. I discovered that I was living in a cancer cluster. I was living 100m from a phone mast and now understand that we are not alone as many other cancer clusters have been discovered around phone masts worldwide.

I would recommend the Church ensure that the mobile phone companies indemnify them from any future court actions that may result from the current situation whereby mobile phone masts are located on their property.

Mobile phone giant Telefonica O2 has appealed against Northumberland County Council’s decision to reject its proposal for a 27.5 metre lattice mast at Heddon on the Wall – 800 metres north of Hadrian’s Wall and within the official setting of what is a World Heritage Site.

If the ObamaCare enthusiast believed that total spending on health care would go down if the government refrained from fiddling he would not be impressed. A health care system that is allowed to go its own way, that relies on markets, that is not centrally planned is odious to him. It is worthwhile to spend more money on health care if the result is a system managed by progressives who are looking out for ‘the interests of society as a whole.’ And what is in the mind of the free marketer? He knows that each person owns his life and has a natural right to manage it for himself. He understands that the proper role of government is to protect natural rights — not to direct the lives of individuals. He appreciates that people have the capacity to make intelligent choices, and that when some people act imprudently, it is not a justification for a government takeover. He knows that when government extricates itself from meddling in the health care system the result will be more innovation, better services, and less expensive costs. But it is the importance of freedom, not saving money, that is the essential reason to proscribe government interference...

The idea was to fill the conversation for months on end with vague talk about expanding coverage, ‘bending the cost-curve,’ improving quality, and rooting out waste, without showing the public how the plan would actually work or what it would cost. Legislation, meanwhile, would be composed behind closed doors, and the bills would be introduced as close as possible to when they might come up for a vote to minimize the time in which they could actually be read and thought about by those who would vote on them and those who would live under them. By the time the details emerged, maybe momentum and being ‘closer than ever before’ would be enough to overcome the torrent of objections that were sure to be raised when people got a real look at the nuts and bolts. The ink was barely dry on President Barack Obama’s signature before the RAND Corp. released a report concluding that, not only would the hard-won health care package fail to curb health insurance premium increases, but the bill itself would drive premiums for young people up as much as 17 percent. This should not have been a surprise: the Congressional Budget Office had already warned that the plan would do almost nothing to reduce premium hikes. And when New York implemented the same type of insurance reforms in the 1980s, it led to an increase of nearly $500 per year for young people. But somehow, the media didn’t pay much attention...
