TARP Watchdog Says Treasury Lacking Bank Data

Silla Brush, The Hill: "The top watchdog over the financial bailout package said the Treasury Department is rejecting 'common sense' by not requiring banks receiving billions of dollars in government money to say how they are using the money. In a report to be released on Monday, Neil Barofsky said banks that have received money from the $700 billion bailout package passed last year are able to indicate how they are using taxpayer money and that Treasury should require banks to be more transparent."

Once World's Bread Basket, Iraq Now a Farming Basket Case

Mike Tharp, McClatchy Newspapers: "Once the cradle of agriculture for civilization, the Land Between Two Rivers - the Tigris and Euphrates - has become a basket case for its farmers. Just ask Naji Habeeb, 85. His family has been growing rice in this village 135 miles southeast of Baghdad for generations. Thin green shoots stick out of the flat paddies, shin-deep in brown water. The Iraqi government, he claims, still owes him half of what he's due from last year's crop."

US Income Inequality Continues to Grow

By Don Monkerud

Wages for most Americans didn't improve from 1979 to 1998, and the median male wage in 2000 was below the 1979 level, despite productivity increases of 44.5 percent. Between 2002 and 2004, inflation-adjusted median household income declined $1,669 a year. To make up for lost income, credit card debt soared 315 percent between 1989 and 2006, representing 138 percent of disposable income in 2007.

Clinton Outlines Continuation of Bush Policies Under Obama at CFR

By Jeremy R. Hammond

Setting aside the platitudes that comprised most of Clinton's speech and looking closely at her remarks that actually spoke meaningfully towards U.S. policy under the Obama, a picture emerges, one not of a change of course from Bush but rather of near perfect continuity between the two administrations.

Hit teams at work

Lots of vague news about some kind of assassination program run out of the Oval Office during the Bush II administration.

You've got to hand it to Congress, the news media and even the "alternative" press for being so clueless.

What kind of people does the White House hit team go after - and why?

It's no mystery.
