Historic street 'wrecked' by mast

The striking skyline of Ashton's most historic street may be "wrecked" by 21st century technology.
Phone giant T-Mobile wants to put a communications mast on the top of the Greensway Shopping Arcade in Ashton's main Gerard Street.
But a councillor claims that the stark structure would make a mockery of the Conservation Area status recently granted to the town centre after an exhaustive survey of its remaining historic buildings.
