GOP Congressman Tied to Consulting Firm

Two months before Congressman Thomas M. Davis III (R-Va.) became chairman of the powerful House Government Reform Committee in January 2003, one of his close friends formed ICG Government, a consulting company for technology firms seeking government contracts.

Making a House Call on Congress

When Congress voted to "stay the course" in Iraq on June 15, many military families were furious. "I watched the entire mock debate on C-Span for 13 hours," says Stacy Bannerman, a member of Military Families Speak Out (MFSO). "That day, I decided that if they wanted to 'stay the course,' they would have to explain their rationale to my face."

War Is the Total Failure of the Human Spirit

"'War is the total failure of the human spirit,' says British journalist Robert Fisk, which I think encapsulates it better than just about anything I have heard," writes Dahr Jamail. "But war forces humans to survive under seemingly impossible circumstances, and in these conditions some strive to help others when barely capable of helping themselves."

"Free Market" Ideology Has Killed Thousands in Iraq

Joshua Holland writes, "Iraqis have been brutalized not only by bombs and bullets; they've also been the victims of economic violence in the form of the free market 'shock therapy' cooked up by a firm in Virginia on a $250 million no-bid contract before the US invasion."

Stopping John Bolton

The U.N. ambassador did face tough questions, but was it enough to keep him from winning a mandate?

Friends, once again, John Bolton, most unqualified appointee of the Bush Administration, is up for confirmation as United Nations Ambassador. When he was refused confirmation the first time, President Bush took the highly unusual step of making a temporary Senior Level appointment while Congress was in recess. Now that period has expired and John Bolton, is once again up for confirmation by the United State Senate and faces serious opposition.

Since the under-handed recess appointment to the UN, he has alienated our allies, stripped every opportunity for diplomacy in favor of confrontation and even fought with our own State Department, undermining the already weak Secretary of State. John Bolton is a dangerous US Diplomat as he doesn't believe in diplomacy! How can we allow such an appointment to stand?

Thanks to your generous donations I have been running call to action radio spots for a couple weeks already, calling for our troops to come home from Iraq now. People in my district are responding to those spots by speaking out themselves. I have already recorded a new anti-Bolton radio commercial. As a Congressional Candidate, I intend to build as much immediate public support as possible to stop this appointment by airing that commercial. It is especially important in my state of Louisiana where we need the vote of Senator Landrieu to sustain a filibuster. You can help, truthfully, with a donation. (You'll hear the commercial after you send your letter to Congress opposing John Bolton and, after hearing it, make your own choice.) Your letter is the most important thing of all!

When you hear President Bush say, "We cannot change the Ambassador at the UN in the midst of this International Emergency," remember that he also said, "Good job, Brownie," to Michael Brown as my city of New Orleans drowned. This is not the time for "Good job, John!", while the innocents of two nations are blown up daily in Israel and Lebanon. Perhaps if we had a real diplomat at the UN we wouldn't have an international crisis.

As progressives, as Americans, we must oppose John Bolton's confirmation. Please write your letter below immediately. Time is crucial to get your comments to your Senators as soon as possible! Don't let John Bolton sneak in as United Nations Ambassador. America cannot afford this man as UN Ambassador. Tell your Senators how you feel about this man who would disgrace America!

Thanks, Stacey Tallitsch, LA-1

This alert is brought to you through the activism of Stacey Tallitsch, running for the U.S. House in the 1st Congressional district, and one of the leading progressive voices in the state of Louisiana. Many of you have already submitted his action page calling for the troops in Iraq to start coming home now, a policy that is more surely correct with every passing state of emergency in Baghdad.

Stacey has already started running his first call to action radio spot, calling for an end of the obstinate occupation of Iraq, a military escapade which has brought nothing but death and destruction to both their country and our own. And he has produced a new one on the Bolton nomination issue. You can hear the new spot on this page.

Nobody can predict how a particular race will turn out. But we know that the spots we ran on impeachment had tremendous secondary impact, as TWO other groups were inspired to run their own call to action ads on this issue as a result of the investment we made in this action. If you are able to do so, please make whatever donation you can to continue the stand we are taking on issue after issue.

Please take action NOW, so we can win all victories that are supposed to be ours, and forward this message to everyone else you know.

The word is that we MIGHT be getting to screen it in mid September. It officially is released tomorrow. Jim Dee from the Palm Cinema will not be showing it (not because he doesnt like it). Shawna Galassi saw the film and reported about it for New Times. check it out in the new current issue or go online at

of course we will let you all know when we get confirmation of the screening in SLO and other cities.

Neocon Richard Pearle's "Clean Break"

What We can Do To Help Save America

by Pastor Chuck Baldwin

In this technologically advanced information age, it is amazing how ignorant the vast majority of Americans seem to be! The reason for this ignorance, of course, is that most people only receive their news from the major media (and by major media, I include the likes of Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity). For the most part, TV news shows and high profile radio talk shows do a better job of hiding the truth than reporting it.....

Comcast Censors ImpeachPAC and YOU

Thanks to your support, ImpeachPAC has raised over $75,000 from nearly 2,000 donors to support pro-impeachment Democratic candidates.

We have contributed the maximum of $5,000 to 6 outstanding Democrats:
Bill Durston (CA-03)
Jeeni Criscenzo (CA-49)
Jean Hay Bright (ME Senate)
Tony Trupiano (MI-11)
Chris Owens (NY-11)
Carl Sheeler (RI Senate)

These candidates are tremendously grateful for your support. Here's what Jeeni Criscenzo wrote in "Slingshots and Goliaths":

"As a grassroots candidate in a race written off as impossible, I have the freedom to write my own playbook. The instructions for winning this battle are written in my heart, and the message is about hope and the courage we need to prevail. And that's why I promise, without hesitation, that when I am in Congress I will make the impeachment of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney my first priority."

And here's Carl Sheeler:

"It is because of the generosity of your supporters we are able to use funds to proudly display our "Be Patriotic Impeach Bush" billboard along I-95 and give out more than 5,000 bumper stickers here in Rhode Island alone. I believe candidates for Congress who properly honor their oath of office and our faith in good government that is of, for and by the people will prevail. IMPEACHPAC is an invaluable player in ensuring this occurs."

Unfortunately many other candidates who support impeachment in private have been told NOT to discuss impeachment in public by Democratic insiders and consultants who get their political "insights" from rightwing fearmongers like Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, and Rush Limbaugh. These insiders even persuaded House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to tell Tim Russert that impeachment was "off the table."

So we decided to take ImpeachPAC in a new direction by raising some of the impeachment-worthy issues that George Bush, Dick Cheney, and Karl Rove don't want Americans to talk about - or even to know about.

Of course the illegal and catastrophic Iraq War is the #1 impeachment issue. But for too many Americans, the war seems far away and therefore less important than the many issues here at home.

So we decided to highlight one Iraq War issue that will affect us right here at home - unless action is taken immediately.

And that is the infiltration of neo-Nazis and racist extremists into the U.S. military.

This story first appeared in the New York Times on July 7. It was based on a report by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), which has an outstanding record of tracking racist and anti-Semitic extremists in the U.S.

The report cites Pentagon investigators who track such extremists. These investigators have identified hundreds of extremists who should be expelled immediately. But because the Iraq War has hurt recruitment so badly, military commanders are refusing to expel these extremists.

Scary, isn't it?

It's even worse when you see the pictures. Here's one of Airman Robert Lee West, who is still active duty at Warner Robins Air Force Base in Georgia.

West took this photo in front of a Nazi flag - and put it right on his personal web site. And even though military officials knew about it, they did not expel West. For all we know, he is planning violent acts with other extremists even as your read this.

And Robert Lee West is just the tip of the iceberg. Pentagon investigators told SPLC they reported 320 extremists at one base alone - but the military expelled only 2. They also identified an online network of 57 extremists at five military bases, and several are in combat in Iraq. It's possible such extremists are responsible for some of the atrocities against Iraqi civilians.

Obviously there should be zero tolerance for extremists in the military.

Timothy McVeigh's extremist ideas came out of his military service during the first Gulf War, and led to his terrorist attack in Oklahoma City in 1995. McVeigh murdered 167 people - the worst terrorist attack in American history before September 11.

Later that year, several extremists with the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg, NC wanted to earn a skinhead tatoo. So they left the base and murdered a young black couple.

Shortly thereafter, President Clinton's Defense Secretary, William Perry, ordered a zero-tolerance policy for extremists. But George Bush's Defense Secretary, Donald Rumsfeld, has ignored that policy - just as he ignored policies against torture and the use of chemical weapons like white phosphorous.

So last week we produced a TV commercial to highlight this issue. And we decided to broadcast it in Connecticut, where Ned Lamont, a strong opponent of the Iraq War, is challenging Senator Joe Lieberman, George Bush's strongest ally on the war.

You can see the ad here:

and read the documentation here:

We contacted Comcast, the largest cable company in Connecticut - and in the U.S. We sent them the link to the ad on July 18. We signed the contract on July 21 and sent the link to the documentation. We gave them our credit card.

Everything was ready - except for Comcast's censors.

We waited... and waited... and waited. Each day we were told the censors were reviewing the ad. But we were never told when - or even if - they would decide.

Frankly, this censorship is intolerable.

Our ad is factual. It is based on a report by a credible, non-partisan organization. The report was credible enough to appear in the New York Times and other publications. Neither the Pentagon nor the White House have challenged the report in any way. The comparison to the Swift Boat ads is night versus day.

Comcast has no right to censor us - or to keep us in the dark. So we need your help.

First watch the ad.

Then review the page with links to our sources.

Then check for the latest update, in case they suddenly change their minds.

And if you think Comcast has no right to censor this ad, then call Comcast's corporate headquarters at 215-665-1700 and ask (politely of course!) for CEO Brian Roberts.

Tell him (or his assistant) that Comcast has no right to censor ImpeachPAC's Connecticut ad on neo-Nazi extremists in our military, and the ad should go on the air immediately.

If Comcast agrees to run the ad, drop us a note here. Tell us who you spoke to and we'll post the announcement at the top of ImpeachPAC.

Thanks for all you do!

Bob Fertik

p.s. We plan to run more hard-hitting ads in the weeks and months to come. If you'd like to help us get these ads on the air, we welcome your contributions here:

A message from Eleanor

This family must truly wonder what country they are living in! This story is reminiscent of the kind of things that used to happen to people in the Soviet Union!!! This is totalitarian behaviour in a so-called democratic state! It beggars belief that someone can be regarded as mentally unfit to watch their grandchild because of the way they furnish their house!! Good grief!! Please read and please sign and do whatever else possible to publicise this travesty. It also smacks of victimisation of someone because of their religion to me - which would be totally unacceptable! Stop The SECRET Plan To Gut Our Environmental Laws: OPPOSE SUNSET COMMISSIONS, H.R. 3282 AND H.R. 5766

Two bills are moving rapidly through the U.S. House of Representatives that would undermine or eliminate critical public health and environmental protection programs. The legislation creates un-elected and unaccountable commissions with the authority to eliminate federal programs and agencies behind closed doors with no opportunity for public input. The commissions are being called sunset commissions because they sunset programs. Unless you act now, critical public health programs including EPA's Clean Air programs that offer protection for all Americans to breath cleaner air, the Preventative Health and Health Services Programs run by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and many others are at risk for elimination. These programs could be eliminated without any public input or a specific vote by Congress.

The legislation, H.R. 3282 and H.R. 5766, is moving through Congress with no public hearings, limited debate in Congress, and little opportunity for lawmakers to offer amendments.

Members of the House are expected to vote on one or both of these bills later this week! So, please act today! Let your Representative know you don't want an unelected body making important decisions about key programs that protect public health and the environment. That's the job we elected Congress to do. Lawmakers have all the authority they need to make decisions about federal programs. Congress should not delegate this authority to "sunset commissions."

What happened to T Mobile who were caught putting up 3G phone masts illegally?

I often wonder what happened to T Mobile who were caught by the BBC putting up 3G phone masts illegally. Were they ever fined? Does anyone know? And who are the body that would deal with it?

My complaint to OFCOM was regarding exactly the same situation here in my village - Orange turned up to upgrade without notifying anyone - said it was maintenance (which I have in writing), then said they were upgrading but that it was not altering the site because they were swapping the antennae for dual purpose ones.

I have beaten the door down at OFCOM - and now DCLG - but it looks like the phone operators have both of these departments in their back pocket (when Orange were told that I was challenging their "OFCOM given right to transmit" they immediately contacted OFCOM).

What we need to be doing is bombarding OFCOM and DCLG with complaints of unlawful upgrading everywhere - because you can be certain that they have done this covertly in most areas. Orange, buoyed by this success, are now planning to install a "temporary mast" in another location in my village - then will apply to make it permanent. They are claiming "emergency" powers because of the loss of a site in a totally different location. I have complained to our Council who have contacted the Agent, telling them it would be unlawful and would send out a wrong message to the Community - then add that if they do go ahead with the installation, they would have to submit a retro application and if this goes against them the mast would have to be removed!!! Yeh.

I feel another Ombudsman form coming on.
