Federal Denial of the Right to Cleaner Air

Truthout's Simona Perry reports, "On January 2, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-California) sent a letter to the Office of the Inspector General of the Environmental Protection Agency asking for an investigation into the decision-making process leading to denial of a Clean Air Act preemptive waiver to the State of California.... Technical or legal analysis supporting the EPA's decision to deny the Clean Air Act waiver has yet to be produced."

Attorneys Probe Deepens

Manu Raju, reporting for The Hill, writes: "Washington's attention has been diverted from the scandal since the August resignation of Alberto Gonzales as attorney general, and has focused instead on Democrats' efforts to hold White House officials in contempt for ignoring congressional subpoenas to testify on Capitol Hill about the firings. But recent behind-the-scenes activity in several investigations suggests that the issue that roiled Congress in 2007 could re-emerge in the heat of the election year."

Missing White House Emails Match Plame Time Frames

Jason Leopold, reporting for Truthout, writes, "The dispute over the missing emails may very well have been relegated to the apparent violation of the Presidential Records Act, if not for the fact the time frame in question coincided with the federal criminal investigation into the leak of Wilson's CIA status, and the fact there was clear-cut documentary evidence that would later be discovered tying Rove and Libby to the leak."

Guardian of What? The Guardian, the Science Lobby, and the Rise of Scientific Corporatism

The One Click Group reviews and publishes today the full text of investigative writer Martin J Walker's new essay that details the way in which the science lobby has been involved in censoring the British media.

Read how British government science policy is dictated by a rag bag cadre of public relations consultancies, ex-Revolutionary Communist Party members and focus groups. Read about Dr Andrew Wakefield and the MMR vaccine. Read how the Guardian has become the newspaper defending industrial interests that damage human health. Read this and weep.

The Democrats could blow it again

The American Prospect
by Paul Starr

Until recently, like most liberals, I was convinced that 2008 was going to be a Democratic year. While Republicans have been listless and divided, Democrats have been passionate and enthusiastic about their candidates for president. An unpopular war, a sinking economy, a general sense of conservative exhaustion: All pointed toward a Democratic triumph in November. A lot of conservatives had come to grudgingly agree and were preparing to spend four years in political rehab. But after the first rounds of caucuses and primaries, the prospects don’t look so rosy for the Democrats or so bleak for the Republicans. The presidential race now looks like a toss-up — perhaps even with a Republican edge...

Crash Boeing 777 British Airways Londres Heathrow.

I wondered whether there could be a connection with mobile phones - we all know that heavy users just can't help themselves....but now it appears that they have a facility to use them on these planes anyway. Just coming in to land is the time most likely for addicts to reach for the buttons.

Re: Was Wi-Fi Behind the Boeing 777 Crash In London?

In the last three weeks tha BA PLANE is the third plane I have read about
that has had a total loss of power. I wonder why this was not mentioned by
the media.
