Mast Fiasco

Sep 7 2007

By Lisa Wright

DISGUSTED borough residents have accused Solihull Council of not doing their job properly as phone giant T-Mobile erected two more masts across the borough this week.

On Wednesday people living in Knightsbridge Road watched in horror as a sub station was installed on the roof of an off-licence while across town work was halted on a mast on Widney Lane - which had been rejected by planning chiefs in May.

Unauthorised phone masts being erected

DONEGAL County Council has confirmed that a number of mobile telephone masts have been erected illegally near Ballybofey.

A number of residents in the Edenmore area outside the town contacted the Donegal News to voice their concern after yet another mast was erected recently.

US Boosting Military Aid in Terrorism Fight

David Morgan reports for Reuters, "The Bush administration is sharply increasing its use of military aid as a reward for countries that cooperate with its war on terrorism, despite concerns about human rights and political instability, researchers said on Thursday."

In U.S., science is distorted to promote political and corporate agendas

In the United States today, science is no longer a pure study. The science primarily publicized today is science that supports the interest of business. You see this in many areas, but most notably in medical and environmental science. Let's start with...

The article on US science shows how it has become corrupted by corporate and political interests. Bert Brecht's Galileo Galilei seems prophetic in his monologue describing scientists as "ingenious dwarfs that can be hired by anybody".

POWERLESS residents have hit out after T-Mobile installed a mast just yards from a children's nursery -and they don't need planning permission for it.

The sub station went up at on Knightsbridge Road this week in what has been branded an "under-hand" and "devious" move by the phone giant.

Drivers risk two years in jail for using their mobile phones

Motorists who use a hand-held mobile phone or fiddle with a satellite-navigation system while driving could be jailed for up to two years.

Prosecutors have said they could be charged with dangerous driving in a dramatically tougher approach to such offences.

Those caught fiddling with an MP3 music player or texting on a mobile at the wheel could also face the charge.

What’s more disgusting, a lie or the truth?

Huffington Post
by David Sirota

If you read the news very carefully, you can see exactly what is going on inside the Washington debate over the Iraq War. One party is lying, and one party is telling the truth — but which ones are doing what may surprise you (or, perhaps, not). First, the lie, otherwise known as the Innocent Bystander Fable. In a story headlined ‘Democrats Retreat on War End,’ The Politico notes that congressional Democrats are — once again — moving towards endorsing a legislative effort to cut the most unpopular president in contemporary American history a blank check to continue the most unpopular war in contemporary American history. Within this story, comes the lie to justify it all...

Will the press again serve as “surge protectors?”

Editor & Publisher

by Greg Mitchell

Over the next week, much will be written, pro and con, about General Petraeus’s report on the progress of the ’surge’ in Iraq and President Bush’s response. Since both men have pretty much already announced, or at least rehearsed, what they are going to say, the suspense is not exactly crippling. I’ll be writing more later, but for now I’d simply like to address the media’s responsibility to address, over the next few days, this key moment in our recent history with a steady gaze — which, as I will recount, was sadly lacking last winter in the weeks before the ’surge’ was announced...

U.S. Staging Nukes for Iran?

By Larry Johnson

Why the hubbub over a B-52 taking off from a B-52 base in Minot, North Dakota and subsequently landing at a B-52 base in Barksdale, Louisiana? That's like getting excited if you see postal worker in uniform walking out of a post office. And how does someone watching a B-52 land identify the cruise missiles as nukes? It just does not make sense.

911 B52 nukes--Put stock options;article=113509

For a couple months already we've been warning you that the Cheney cabal was hell bent on carpet bombing Iran, INCLUDING the use of nuclear weapons as bunker busters. This week there was a story in the mainstream media about nuclear tipped cruise missiles being transferred to Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana, which just happens to be a jumping off point for Middle East operations. And if we do use first strike nuclear weapons, as they are PLANNING to do, that will pave the way for their use by any renegade lunatic acting in revenge.

Since then the corporate media has desperately been trying to spin these loose nukes as a mistake, backed up hypocritical disciplinary action against the local commanders. The only mistake as far as they are concerned was that anybody was tipped off. Lies on top of lies. In yet another story leaked this week, we know they are even now mobilizing for a massive bombing campaign to hit at least a thousand simultaneous targets in Iran, the most massive blitzkrieg in military history.

Of course the two biggest mistakes are sitting in the White House right now, and their last names are Cheney and Bush. Cheney in particular is absolutely obsessed with military aggression against Iran, while the fundamentalists in the region egg him on, believing that such an attack would make them more powerful, just as the invasion and occupation of Iraq has done nothing but bring them more recruits for their jihad.

Folks, it's going to be a footrace between impeachment and Armageddon. If you liked the 5 year debacle in Iraq, you are going to LOVE the next 100 years of nuclear world war, assuming human civilization lasts even a small portion of that. Yes, we know that our members of Congress are, with a couple of courageous exceptions like Kucinich, nothing but a bunch of gutless congenital cowards. But, they WILL act of enough of us speak out at once, they always do. But only if they hear from YOU.

So we ask you again to submit the action page above. Join the other more than 100,000 of your fellow citizens who have done so. Express your opinion on whether Cheney should be impeached or not. Why would you expect Congress to speak out to protect you UNLESS you will speak out to protect yourself? We need every voice we can muster right now. We still have time to stop the march to utter world destruction. We need YOUR voice.

We don't have time to wait for the next scheduled election. There is no assurance there will even BE a next election. Unless the strategic lunatics in the White House are directly confronted and stopped now there is no evil that is beyond their pathological capacity. Notice how the usual right wing suspects are beating the drums harder and harder to sell a new war in Iran. We have to counter mobilize. We have to tell Congress, no way.

And the best and strongest way to do that is to demand immediate impeachment, with Cheney first up. Anything less will result in just more backing down by a witless Congress, and surrender to the most depraved horrors in the darkest recesses of Dick Cheney's mind.

Please take action NOW, so we can win all victories that are supposed to be ours, and forward this message to everyone else you know.
