Florida GOP Congressman Took Abramoff Gifts

The newest figure to face serious FBI scrutiny in the Abramoff scandal is Representative Tom Feeney (R-Florida), who said bureau agents have asked for details of a 2003 golf trip to Scotland that he took with Abramoff - a trip that the House Ethics Committee recently determined violated House rules. Last week, FBI agents raided the home of Representative John Doolittle (R-California) in a search for business records of his wife, Julie, who has done work for Abramoff. And on Tuesday, former Congressional aide Mark Zachares, aide to Representative Don Young (R-Alaska), pleaded guilty to helping Abramoff obtain government business and inside information in exchange for cash, gifts and job favors.

Keith Olbermann delivers a special comment about Rudolph Giuliani's remarks at a Lincoln Day dinner in New Hampshire: "Rather than a reasoned discussion - rather than a political campaign advocating your own causes and extolling your own qualifications - you have bypassed all the intermediate steps, and moved directly to trying to terrorize the electorate into viewing a vote for a Democrat - not as a reasonable alternative and an inalienable right - but as an act of suicide."

US Military Accused of Lying to Create War Heroes

Kevin Tillman, the brother of a US football star killed by "friendly fire" in Afghanistan, and Jessica Lynch, a female soldier who decried her inaccurate portrayal as a "little girl Rambo," accused the military of spreading outright lies and manipulating their stories for a hero-starved public during testimony before Congress on Tuesday.

Another Dubious Firing

"Congressman Rick Renzi, an Arizona Republican, was locked in a close re-election battle last fall when the local United States attorney, Paul Charlton, was investigating him for corruption. The investigation appears to have been slowed before Election Day. Mr. Renzi retained his seat and Mr. Charlton ended up out of a job - one of eight prosecutors purged by the White House and the Justice Department. This Arizona case adds a disturbing new chapter to that scandal," says The New York Times.

Zum angekündigten Maßnahmepaket des Bundesumweltministers Gabriel zur Reduzierung der Treibhausgas-Emissionen

#Die Linkspartei.PDS: Pressemitteilungen

26. April 2007

Damit setzt sich fort, was seit Monaten andauert.

UN climate scientists write off Africa

The American Spectator
by Patrick J. Michaels

04/26/07

The United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) clearly believes that Africa is incapable of developing a 19th-century market economy in the 21st century. Where’s the outrage? In particular, I am referring to the just-released ‘Policymakers Summary’ of an upcoming UN report on ‘Climate Change Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability.’ It predicts that ‘agricultural production, including access to food, in many African countries and regions is projected to be severely compromised by climate variability and change. …This would further affect food security and exacerbate malnutrition on the continent.’ With a diversified economy Africa and the world can easily deal with declines in local food production brought upon by bad weather. Nations of the world do it all the time, every year. The mechanism is the global market...

Schwarzenegger to sue EPA over air standards

Los Angeles Times

04/25/07

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said today that California will sue the federal government if the state is not allowed within six months to implement its landmark law requiring greenhouse gases from vehicle tailpipes to be slashed. … The governor and his staff said a letter was sent today by state attorneys giving the required six-month notice of intent to sue under the Clean Air Act for not allowing California to move forward with its law. Under the act, Congress gave California special powers to pass its own tougher air pollution laws. But a waiver must first be granted by the EPA for any such law. Once California receives permission, other states can follow its lead. Eleven other states have adopted tailpipe greenhouse gas laws similar to California’s and they are waiting for California to get the EPA waiver. … California filed its request in December 2005 and has been waiting for word from the federal government...

Presse Information vom 26. April 2007

Benny Haerlin von Save our Seeds: "BAYER verweigert jegliche Entschädigung, weil die Verunreinigung ein "Act of God", also höhere Gewalt, sei.

TELL CONGRESS WHETHER TO IMPEACH VICE PRESIDENT CHENEY OR NOT

3. has threatened aggression against the Republic of Iran absent any real threat to the United States, all in detriment to the national interest of the United States.

CANCER FEAR OVER ELECTRIC BLANKET

http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/5301

Informant: Martin Weatherall

--------

Electric Blankets cause Womb Cancer

Yesterday's Daily Telegraph

Woman who regularly use electric blankets to keep warm at night could be more at risk of cancer of the womb, according to a new study. Those asked if they had ever used an electric blanket were 15 per cent more likely to develop womb cancer than those who had never used them. But among women who regularly used the devices for 20 years or more , the risks increased by 36 per cent. Scientists believe the blankets may expose women to llow levels of electromagnetic radiation. The findings add to the controversy over whether electromagnetic fields in the home are dangerous. Scientists at Wayne State University in Michigan, US, came up with the latest findings after analysing data on more than 90,000 women taking part in a major health research project. Ther results, published in the European Journal of Cancer Prevention showed that around 1500 of them had developed a turour of the womb, known as endometrial cancer.

Working for the Clampdown: What might the president do with his new power to declare martial law?

By James Bovard

How many pipe bombs might it take to end American democracy? Far fewer than it would have taken a year ago.

Working For The Clampdown

By James Bovard

How many pipe bombs might it take to end U.S. democracy? Far fewer than it would have taken a year ago. The Defense Authorization Act of 2006, passed on September 30, empowers President George W. Bush to impose martial law in the event of a terrorist "incident" or if he or other federal officials perceive a shortfall of "public order" or even in response to antiwar protests that get unruly as a result of government provocations.
