Listen closely to the descriptions of cars given away on The Price Is Right, and you’ll hear “California emissions” listed among the options. This is good news for Golden State contestants who can breathe easier knowing they can drive their new car home to the O.C. because it won’t just meet federal emissions standards but California’s more stringent laws, as well. You see, throughout most of the 44 years since the Clean Air Act was passed, California has exceeded national emissions guidelines, thanks to more than 50 waiver requests granted by the Environmental Protection Agency, but the state’s ability to lead the charge toward cleaner air has now been hampered by the very agency that should be cheering it on...
