In an insightful article in the Dec. 16 Tennessean … authors Richard Armitage and Joseph Nye spoke a universal truth that has echoed down through the corridors of history with a power that challenges us as Americans to take a serious look at the dangerous course we have been following for the past six years. This truth has not only been spoken by numerous heroes of the higher human self, but also demonstrated in their lives, some literally losing their lives to defend the efficacy of the truth. … How we, as a nation, have deviated so far from this truth by practicing the principle that military power will provide the solution for all our insecurities, and by the demonstration of most of our presidential candidates that saving our lives is the utmost issue of importance. And all because the elevation of this issue to the highest pinnacle of our value system has been sold to the American people in the past six years...
