Bush, While Citing Threats, to Cut Anti-Terror Funds

The Associated Press has obtained budget documents which show that the Bush administration intends to drastically cut funding for counterterrorism operations across the country. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-California) criticized the plan, saying that "This administration runs around the country scaring people and then when it comes to putting their money where their mouth is, they say 'sorry, the bank is closed.'"

Witness Names to Be Withheld From Detainee

William Glaberson reports in Saturday's New York Times that defense attorneys representing a 21-year-old being held prisoner at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, "have been ordered by a military judge not to tell their client - or anyone else - the identity of witnesses against him" in the prisoner's upcoming war crimes trial, newly released documents show, which the attorneys say "would hamper their ability to build an adequate defense because they cannot ask their client or anyone else about prosecution witnesses, making it difficult to test the veracity of testimony."

War with Iran is looming

The parallels between pre-invasion Iraq and today's Iran forebode yet another American invasion. The United States' mounting accusations of Iran's alleged quest for nuclear weapons have surpassed the level of those previously pointed at Saddam Hussein's regime.

Iran to give US "far worse destiny" than Iraq, ex-president says

The Cyber Guardians of Honest Journalism

By John Pilger

What has changed in the way we see the world? For as long as I can remember, the relationship of journalists with power has been hidden behind a bogus objectivity and notions of an "apathetic public" that justify a mantra of "giving the public what they want."

The Case for Staying Out of Other People's Wars

By Jim Powell

Surely, one of the most important principles of American foreign policy should be to conserve resources for defending the country. President Woodrow Wilson violated this principle by entering World War I which didn't involve an attack on the United States.

The Iran Threat?

By Soraya Sepahpour-Ulrich

America and Israel have accused Iran of intending to diversify its program - they allege that Iran is using its civilian program as a cover to build nuclear bombs. This supposition begs the question why Iran would place itself in the spotlight instead of renouncing the energy program for history has shown that having an operating nuclear power reactor is no longer a prerequisite or even a necessary condition of obtaining fissile material which can be used for the development of nuclear materials.
