On October 17, 2006, two bills were signed into law. The Military Commission Act, which suspends Habeas Corpus: the federal government can detain anyone without charges, there is federal government sanction torture and the use of hearsay evidence. The MCA was signed with some fanfare, little mainstream media coverage and a lot of alternative media coverage. On that same day, in the privacy of the oval office, a despot who calls himself the president of the United States, signed Public Law 109-364, the 'Defense Authorization Act' (DAA)...
