Gulf Rig's Owner Invokes 1851 Law to Limit Liability

Scott Hiaasen, Miami Herald: "Transocean, Ltd., the Switzerland-based offshore contractor that owned the Deepwater Horizon floating drilling rig, has asked a federal court in Houston to limit its liability from the oil spill to less than $27 million."

The Politics of Disaster: Will Gulf Tragedy Bring Real Change?

Chris Kromm, Facing South: "The disaster has clearly changed the offshore oil debate. After two years of 'drill, baby, drill,' the Obama administration announced just last March that it was opening vast new expenses of water along the Atlantic coast, Gulf of Mexico and north coast of Alaska to oil and gas projects."

Trilateral Commission Wants War With Iran

TC member unwittingly tells We Are Change activist of plans for world government

Friday, May 14, 2010

Trilateral Commission member Mikhail Slobodovsici, a chief adviser to the Russian leadership, unwittingly provided a revealing insight into the plans of the global elite during the group’s recent meeting in Dublin Ireland, when he mistakenly told a We Are Change Ireland activist he thought was a fellow TC member that the globalists are planning a war with Iran.

Guns of August in the Middle East?

Cato Institute
by Stanley Kober

The 20th century was a century of war. In August 1914, the peace of Europe was shattered. The United States, which had remained apart from major foreign wars for a century, was drawn in. Tragically, the United States has been at war many times since then: World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan. It is not something Americans a century ago would have expected when they thought World War I would be the ‘war to end all wars.’ The 21st century, unfortunately, does not look any better. Having inherited two wars, President Obama is trying to extricate America from one war in Iraq to concentrate on another in Afghanistan. But a third war is looming: Iran...

An alarming sign

Center for a Stateless Society
by Kevin Carson

I cringe when I hear the words ‘thank you for your service.’ I’m sure that many people in military uniform joined out of a sincere, albeit misguided, belief that that the wars they were fighting were in some sense to defend American lives and freedom. But it’s utterly nonsensical. Every time I hear someone say the troops in Iraq are ‘fighting for your right’ to do this or that, or ‘fighting for our freedom,’ I have to restrain myself from going ballistic. Gary Trudeau even (even?) got into the act. In a recent Doonesbury strip, the wounded Iraq vet kid with the stutter told one of the open-carry people at Starbucks ‘I spent two years behind an M-60 defending your right to be a moron about guns.’ No kidding? How exactly would those guys’ rights to pack heat at Starbucks have been threatened if Bush hadn’t invaded Iraq?

The endless occupation: Obama scraps Iraq withdrawal plan

by Justin Raimondo

Keeping his campaign promises has not been Barack Obama’s strong point, as those who hoped the closing of Guantanamo would end a shameful chapter in American history have learnt to their sorrow: and surely those who hoped ‘change’ meant a new era in American foreign policy have reason to be disappointed. As usual, on most issues Obama gave himself a lot of wiggle room, so that if a strategic shift were required he could dance around the contradiction with ease, but on one question he painted himself into a corner: ‘Let me say this as plainly as I can: by August 31, 2010, our combat mission in Iraq will end.’ He said that, not only during the campaign, but in a speech at Camp Lejeune last year. However, it looks like his administration is preparing to backtrack …

Obama scraps Iraq withdrawal plan

by David Swanson

So, we elected a president who promised a withdrawal from Iraq that he, or the generals who tell him what to do, is now further delaying. And, of course, the timetable he’s now delaying was already a far cry from what he had promised as a candidate. What are we to think? That may be sad news, but what could we have done differently? Surely it would have been worse to elect a president who did not promise to withdraw, right?

No Friend of Freedom: Obama’s Supreme Court Nominee, Elena Kagan

Obama’s natural choice of Kagan

Campaign For Liberty
by Glenn Greenwald

It’s anything but surprising that President Obama has chosen Elena Kagan to replace John Paul Stevens on the Supreme Court. Nothing is a better fit for this White House than a blank slate, institution-loyal, seemingly principle-free careerist who spent the last 15 months as the Obama administration’s lawyer vigorously defending every one of his assertions of extremely broad executive authority...

Kagan: Another radical masquerading as a moderate

by Jim Kouri

While President Barack Obama's sycophants within the mainstream media are attempting to paint the President's nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court, Elena Kagan, as a moderate, it's the blogosphere and talk radio that are exposing her radical politics which are more akin to those of Obama than those of the Founding Fathers. For example, during the Bush Administration's battle against........
