Auf den Holzfällerstraßen dringen Wilderer in den Wald ein

Nürnberg will sparen – ausgerechnet auf Kosten afrikanischer Regenwälder. Der Dienstleistungsbetrieb Öffentlicher Raum Nürnberg (SÖR) plant, die 3.500 Parkbänke der Stadt mit Latten aus Tropenholz auszustatten. Eine Testphase mit 200 Parkbänken läuft bereits. Tropenholz sei länger haltbar und weniger pflegebedürftig als die bisher verwendeten einheimischen Hölzer, so die Argumentation. Mit zertifiziertem Holz aus Afrika ließen sich in den nächsten 25 Jahren rund 11,9 Millionen Euro sparen. Doch im Regenwald gibt es von der versprochenen Nachhaltigkeit keine Spur, daran können auch Alibizertifikate nichts ändern. (Start: 21.08.2009)

Wie am Mittwoch das Bundesverfassungsgericht in Karlsruhe mitteilte, werden die Arbeitslosengeld II Regelsätze in einer Verhandlung überprüft. Vor allem stehe der Regelsatz für Kinder zur Disposition. Zahlreiche Sozialgerichte halten den angesetzten Regelsatz vor allem für Kinder als deutlich zu niedrig angesetzt. Das Bundesverfassungsgericht wird nun zunächst überprüfen, ob die Hartz-IV Regelsätze dem Bundesdeutschen Grundgesetz entsprechen bzw. mit diesem vereinbar sind.

A suspected missile attack early Friday destroyed a militant hideout in northwest Pakistan, killing at least seven people, two intelligence officials said. The officials said some people also were wounded when the two missiles hit a compound in the village of Dande Darpa Khel, near Miran Shah in troubled tribal region of North Waziristan. The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to media, said authorities stepped up security in the region following the attack and that efforts were under way to get details about the slain and injured people...
