As reported, the mobile company wants to site the mast in Nickerson Way, and the proposal has sparked controversy among residents.

Nach Angaben der innenpolitischen Sprecherin der Linksfraktion, Ulla Jelpke, sollen in Deutschland lebende irakische Flüchtlinge wieder in den Irak abgeschoben werden. "Sie mussten in den letzten Wochen wegen der zwischenzeitlichen Transport-Verweigerung der einzigen Fluggesellschaft, die Direktflüge von Deutschland in die autonome Region Kurdistan im Nordirak anbietet, ausgesetzt werden." Nachdem aber die kurdisch-irakische Zagros-Air "auf deutschen Druck hin" wieder zum Transport von abgeschobenen Flüchtlingen bereit sei, solle im nächsten Monat die erste Abschiebung stattfinden, kritisiert Jelpke.

Mehr als 200 Organisationen aus 56 Ländern, darunter die deutsche Organisation WEED, fordern von der Weltbank und anderen Internationalen Finanzinstitutionen, die Subventionen für die Ölindustrie zu beenden. Die Weltbank brauche einen "Ölwechsel", meinen die Nicht-Regierungsorganisationen. 2007 habe die International Finance Corporation (IFC) als Privatsektorarm der Weltbank den Öl- und Gaskonzernen mehr als 645 Millionen US-Dollar zur Verfügung gestellt. Das sei ein Anstieg um etwa 40 Prozent seit 2006. Die Organisationen fordern, dass Entwicklungshilfegelder, die angeblich der Armutsbekämpfung dienen sollen, nicht länger für Öl-Subventionen verwendet werden.
