Perhaps because the U.S. is attacking Muslim countries and the U.S. media routinely link the term 'terrorism' with the word 'Islam.' Muslims worldwide can easily see this phenomenon on American news programs beamed into their countries via satellite TV. Immer mehr Mobilfunkunternehmen würden eine Doppelstrategie verfolgen, um die Kosten der Erstanschaffung niedrig zu halten. Zum einen beträgt die Mindestvertragsdauer, in der Regel 18 und nicht länger 12 Monate. Gleichzeitig bieten immer mehr Handy-Netzbetreiber Tarife mit 0 Cent Optionen an.

Was dabei oft verschwiegen wird, ist die Tatsache, dass diese 0-Cent-Option meist nur für ausgewählte Netze gilt. Gespräche in andere Netze sind dafür aber umso teurer. Auch eine aktuelle Studie der Arbeiterkammer unterstreicht die Verschuldensproblematik durch Handys bei Jugendlichen. Ein Detail daraus besagt, dass knapp 60 Prozent der Fälle, in denen sich Jugendliche über ihre Grenzen hinaus verschulden, auf Handykosten zurückzuführen sind. „Eine Alternative dazu bieten sicherlich die sogenannten Wertkarten-Handys. Diese haben den Vorteil, dass Eltern die Kosten des Handytelefonierens besser im Auge behalten können“, rät Dunst.
