Families are being urged to oppose a mobile phone mast application at a site near Earlham police station where previous plans have already been refused.

Phone giant 02 has applied to put a 12.5m slim line street works column with three antennae on the highway verge adjoining the police station in Earlham Road.

As reported in The Evening News, families won a fight to stop a mast being installed there in January 2007, after city planners went against the recommendations of officers to approve proposals by O2 for a 12.5m mock telegraph mast.

More than 40 people had raised concerns about the plans and planning committee members received 11 letters of objection citing visual impact and health fears. Councillors agreed that it would have been an eyesore and turned it down.
