GOP Attacks on American Voters Turn Desperate, Ugly and Dangerous

Say Anything

Michael Winship, Truthout: "And so it has begun. The final month of the presidential race, the campaign that feels as if it commenced some time during the Coolidge administration. And as we slide into these last weeks, what we all feared is coming true. Just when you thought the bottom of the swamp had been scraped, sludge gurgles up from the primordial ooze."

GOP Attacks on American Voters Turn Desperate, Ugly and Dangerous

Bob Fitrakis and Harvey Wasserman, The Free Press: "The GOP assault on American voters has hit full stride as the economy and John McCain tank in synch. With just over three weeks until election day, the Republicans have mounted an all-out attack against newly registered voters and the organizations working to sign them up."

Palin Abused Power as Governor of Alaska

Serge F. Kovaleski, The New York Times: "Governor Sarah Palin abused the powers of her office by pressuring subordinates to try to get her former brother-in-law, a state trooper, fired, an investigation by the Alaska Legislature has concluded. The inquiry found, however, that she was within her right to dismiss her public safety commissioner, Walt Monegan, who was the trooper's boss."

Phone mast 'yes' despite concerns

A CONTROVERSIAL mobile phone mast looks set to be built on hills above Whitworth.

Members of Rossendale Council’s development control committee approved the plan by six votes to one at a meeting at Hardmans Mill on Monday night.

Councillors accepted a prior notification application by communications giant Orange to build the 15-metre structure in High Barn Lane, close to Cowm Reservoir and other Green Belt land.

Nearly 650 individual letters of objection from local residents were received by the council. Concerns included the visual impact the scheme would have on the landscape, that a magnetic field set up by the phone mast would affect wildlife, radiation emitted from the column could be harmful to people and that the proposed construction was too large.

Councillor Catherine Pilling told the committee she had concerns about the mast’s location and also noted the number of objections to the application.

Wireless Mind, Gullible Mind

By Chellis Glendinning

I have been contemplating the infamous Trojan Horse whose deus-ex-machina arrival at the edge of Troy stirred wonder among the gullible citizens, only to lure them to their demise.

I think such thoughts because another mighty horse has been steered into our midst, and like Trojans we have thrown open the gates to welcome it in.

I am referring to the onslaught of wireless technologies in the form of microwave towers, satellites showering the planet with radiation, Wireless Fidelity (WiFi) ports, Wireless Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) antennas -- plus all the gadgets they make possible: cordless phones, pagers, Blackberries, roving laptops, wireless water meters, satellite TV and radio, in-flight internet. I am referring as well to the electromagnetic weapons, radiation-emitting stations, surveillance instruments, and crowd-control devices military and law enforcement deploy.

FEARS have been voiced over plans to install a mobile phone mast in the middle of a housing estate, next to a primary school.

Residents of Englefield Avenue, Connah's Quay, have handed a petition of more than 300 signatures to Alyn and Deeside MP Mark Tami, protesting against the proposed phone mast.

Mobile phone network giants Vodafone have put forward plans to install the eight metre phone mast near the junction of Englefield Avenue and Hillside Avenue.

But it has been met with outrage from nearby householders, who say it is too near Bryn Deva Primary School, given the uncertainty surrounding phone masts and health risks.
