Community's fears as phone giant appeals 14-metre mast plan refusal

THE Scottish Reporter has visited Rosyth as part of a probe into Vodafone’s appeal to erect a phone mast on Queensferry Road.
Vodafone applied for planning permission last October to put up a 14.2m-high tower, with three antennae, a transmission dish and associated ground base equipment cabinets – but was turned down by Fife Council “in the interests of visual and residential amenity”.
The council said the proposed installation would be “out of character with the immediate urban form and detailing of the streetscape and would detract from the visual integrity of the Rosyth Methodist Church”.
However, the mobile phone giant appealed and Rosyth Community Council chair Mike Shirkie said residents would be “very disappointed” if it went through.
He said, “People don’t want it. Local residents will be very disappointed if they win the appeal. That’s why we raised the objection, because there was a feeling locally that they didn’t want the mast.
