When the Republican Party decided to coordinate expenses with John McCain’s presidential campaign, who knew it would be color coordinated. The Republican National Committee spent about $150,000 on clothing, hair styling, makeup and other ‘campaign accessories’ in September for the McCain campaign after Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin joined the ticket as his running mate. The McCain campaign now says the clothing will go to a ‘charitable purpose’ after the campaign. The expenses include $75,062 spent at Neiman Marcus in Minneapolis Minn., and $41,850 in St. Louis in early September. The committee also reported spending $4,100 for makeup and hair consulting. The expenses were first reported by Politico.com.

In an interview posted online Wednesday, Sarah Palin told Dr. James Dobson of “Focus on the Family” that she is confident God will do “the right thing for America” on Nov. 4.Dobson asked the vice presidential hopeful if she is concerned about John McCain’s sagging poll numbers, but Palin stressed that she was “not discouraged at all.”“To me, it motivates us, makes us work that much harder,” she told the influential Christian leader, whose radio show reaches millions of listeners daily. “And it also strengthens my faith because I know at the end of the day putting this in God’s hands, the right thing for America will be done, at the end of the day on Nov. 4.” …. Questions persist about McCain, Palin

At least Dick Cheney waited until he was V.P. to go into a bunker, but Palin seems to have gone into a figurative bunker while still a V.P. candidate. … In a way, she is between a rock and a hard place: if she withholds press appearances, many voters will doubt her qualifications to be V.P.; but if she appears freely in the media, opens her mouth and launches into her now-famous syntax, she removes all doubt...
