Bush: ‘We’ve Never Been Stay The Course’

Democrats, Independents and Goldwater Conservatives,

If we don't win the elections locally, turn in your voter's registration card and sign up for your RFID chip at the nearest Homeland Labor Office.

Don't EVER talk about taking back ANYTHING. We have the numbers, and there is NO EXCUSE.

US 'cannot stay course' in Iraq

The US is not winning in Iraq and will not be able to stay the course in the long-term, a US state department insider has said.

A Study in Constant Motion

"'We will stay the course until the job is done, Steve,' said George W. Bush during a press conference in December of 2003 ... 'And so we've got tough action in Iraq. But we will stay the course,' Bush said again on April 5th, 2004. On the 13th of that month, he said, 'And my message today to those in Iraq is: We'll stay the course.' Three days later, he said, 'And that's why we're going to stay the course in Iraq. And that's why when we say something in Iraq, we're going to do it.' In August of 2005, he said, 'We will stay the course, we will complete the job in Iraq.' A year later, in Utah, he said, 'We will stay the course.' ... This past Sunday, George Stephanopoulos put the question to Bush in an interview for ABC's "This Week" news show. 'James Baker,' said Stephanopoulos, 'says that he's looking for something between 'cut and run' and 'stay the course.'' Bush's reply? 'Well, hey, listen, we've never been 'stay the course,'" writes William Rivers Pitt.

Course correction

Slate
by John Dickerson

President Bush likes to say Democrats belong 'to the party of cut and run.' He continues to say this even though the administration's strategy for insisting on timetables from Iraqi leaders is becoming harder to distinguish from plans put forward by Democrats. But now the Bush administration is having problems fighting off labels. White House officials have banished the phrase 'stay the course' from presidential speeches and public comments. They claim it mischaracterizes the administration's Iraq policy. The linguistic gamesmanship may be absurd, but it's true that 'stay the course' hasn't been President Bush's policy for a while, if it ever was. On the ground, U.S. military tactics have been shifting all the time. Unfortunately, this semantic truth should comfort no one, least of all Republicans. The problem in Iraq is not that new tactics haven't been tried. It's that they have been, and they've failed...

Watch Bush Administration BOLDLY LIE on "Stay the Course!"

At last, a piece from the Democratic Party worth forwarding heavily.

This is absolutely fantastic, and it was very, very easy to do.

You must motivate your neighbors to go out to vote for candidates like me who are here to stop this insanity. If we don't win, given the many reasons Republican voters will stay home this time around, it's because YOU don't want to win. You won't be able to blame ANYONE else.

"Stability First:" Newspeak for rape of Iraq
Asia Times
by Pepe Escobar

10/27/06

It's not the first time Baghdad has been sacked. Genghis Khan's grandson did it, and so did Tamerlan. In the good old days, they built pyramids of skulls. This time around, they coin nice names, like 'Stability First' and 'Redeploy and Contain.' 'Staying the Course' is out of favor, but no matter, they all amount to the same thing: rape...

Don't not stay the course
AlterNet
by Will Durst

That's right; George Bush is cutting and running from 'stay the course.' This doesn't mean he's a Defeatlican, though. Because 'we are winning in Iraq and will continue to win.' And you'd better hope we do, because if this is winning, you really, really don't want to see what losing looks like. He went on to speak of the differences between 'a timetable' and 'benchmarks,' declaring one to be the way of the winner and the other the path to Loserville City. Now, as to which is which, your guess is as good as anybody's. And that probably includes his own staff. It definitely includes Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki who either has or hasn't agreed to benchmarks or timetables or touchstones or yardsticks, although a Donald Rumsfeld yard sign looks to be entirely out of the question...
