Denounce the Wiretap Hearings as a SHAM
We are hard at work exploring the possibility of primary challenges for those senators who would not listen to the manifest voice of the people calling for a filibuster of the Alito nomination. In particular if you know someone in New Mexico with the courage to run, please put them in touch immediately. That is all the MORE reason for us to continue to speak out and encourage everyone we know to do so as well, to remind our senators how close they are to losing their own jobs.
The hearings on the illegal wiretaps of U.S. citizens have so far turned out to be a total charade. Not only did judiciary committee chairman Spector REFUSE to put attorney general Alberto Gonzales under oath, Gonzalez refused to answer any questions of substance directly, even not being under oath. Add to this the refusal of the justice department to even provide any of the legal opinions upon which this constitutional outrage was putatively based and the result is an insult to the intelligence of the American people.

Please call your senators and demand that there be a special prosecutor appointed in the illegal wiretaps case. If the Senate is not willing to perform its oversight role with any kind of integrity, there must be an independent counsel to determine the extent to which the president and his minions deliberately and grossly violated the law. The Democratic senators in particular should make strong statements that the hearings are nothing but a sham and BOYCOTT any further such proceedings.
