India Toes Bush Line on Iran
The Singh government's far-right predecessors had tried to forge an "anti-terrorist" alliance with the US and even become the camp-followers of Bush in Iraq, but failed. Popular opposition prevented it. It remains to be seen whether India's ruling class can take advantage of the new Iran opening to make "strategic partnership" with the US more real - and whether the people of the country will permit it, writes J.
