2011 US Iraq Withdrawal Depends on Conditions on the Ground

By The Telegraph

"And so three years is a long time. Conditions could change in that period of time," said Adml Mullen, adding the United States will continue to talk with Baghdad "as conditions continue to evolve." Asked if the agreement could be changed, he said "that's theoretically possible".

Will The US Government Accept Responsibility For The Slaughter Of Over 1,000,000 Iraqis?

By Michael Schwartz

Historically, the U.S. government has a poor record of acknowledging its responsibility for death and/or destruction of other peoples, beginning with the genocide against Native Americans (never officially acknowledged), continuing through two hundred years of the slave trade and slavery (there has actually been a limp official apology), and culminating in the ongoing refusal to acknowledge one to three million deaths in Vietnam caused by the U.S. attempt to conquer that country.

Mast row council made previous blunder

DAVID BALE

15 November 2008 07:00

The Norfolk council at the centre of a row over a controversial mast plan was previously criticised for a blunder by the Local Government Ombudsman, it emerged today.

In yesterday's Evening News, we launched our new campaign calling upon a mobile phone giant to scrap plans to build a mast on a site where it only won planning consent due to a council blunder.

People living in Reepham Road, Hellesdon thought they had successfully fought off plans for the mast, until it emerged last week it would be built after all because a letter sent by the council did not arrive quickly enough.

The campaign for O2 to reconsider its plans for the mast has already been backed by concerned families, MPs and local councillors.

Put an End to Election Messes

The Boston Globe, Editorial Board: "Barack Obama's superior get-out-the-vote operation spared the country from another squeaker presidential election, with the claims of voter fraud and intimidation that have become so familiar in the previous two cycles. But that doesn't mean the problems in the nation's electoral system have disappeared. They're just not as visible at high tide."

Hard Labor at a Tender Age

Franco Ordonez and Ames Alexander, The Charlotte Observer: "Four months after turning 15, Lucero Gayton began work on the night shift at a House of Raeford Farms chicken plant. Starting at 11 each night, when most girls her age were asleep, the shy teenager with brown eyes was working 10-hour shifts, wielding a sharp knife, cutting muscles from thousands of freshly killed chickens."

Child Labor Going Largely Unchecked

Ames Alexander and Franco Ordonez, The Charlotte Observer: "Nery Castaneda tackled a job that was never intended for kids his age. One afternoon last fall, the 17-year-old Guatemala native ran a machine to grind damaged pallets into mulch. When a co-worker at the Greensboro plant returned from another task, he didn't see Nery - until he looked inside the shredder."

Ditch the Smooth Transition, The People Voted for Change

Naomi Klein, The Guardian UK: "The more details emerge, the clearer it becomes that Washington's handling of the Wall Street bail-out is not merely incompetent: it is borderline criminal. In a moment of high panic in September, the US treasury pushed through a radical change in how bank mergers are taxed - a change long sought by the industry."
