How To Conceal Massive Economic Collapse

By Ellen Brown

What to do? War and threats of war have been used historically to distract the population and deflect public scrutiny from economic calamity.

The Bush Doctrine Meets Reality, Reality Wins

My Army Went To Iraq And All I Got Was This Lousy Airlift

By David Michael Green

Your average American is going to have a hard time seeing the Iraq war as morally equivalent to the one in Georgia (let alone even less justified), but that is simply because he or she is American. The rest of the world has no such problem, and never has. An invasion of a sovereign state is an invasion of a sovereign state, pure and simple.

Lawsuit Filed Against Gonzales & DOJ Officials

Emma Schwartz, of ABC News: "Six attorneys rejected from civil service positions at the Justice Department filed a lawsuit on Friday against former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and three other top officials for allegedly violating their rights by taking politics into consideration in the hiring process. The suit is an attempt to hold top officials accountable for the hiring scandal that ultimately led to Gonzales' resignation last year, said Daniel Metcalfe, the attorney for the plaintiffs."

Local Police May Get Broader Spy Powers

Spencer S. Hsu and Carrie Johnson, The Washington Post: "The Justice Department has proposed a new domestic spying measure that would make it easier for state and local police to collect intelligence about Americans, share the sensitive data with federal agencies and retain it for at least 10 years. The proposed changes would revise the federal government's rules for police intelligence-gathering for the first time since 1993 and would apply to any of the nation's 18,000 state and local police agencies that receive roughly $1.6 billion each year in federal grants. Quietly unveiled late last month, the proposal is part of a flurry of domestic intelligence changes issued and planned by the Bush administration in its waning months."

Do cell towers really pose health problems?

New People’s Army targets include cell phone towers. The telecommunications company owners (and their insurance companies) hate it. So do the wireless system clients and the people of the local community.

But should they? They don’t realize it but maybe Ka Roger’s people are promoting their good health.

Councillors reject advice to oppose mobile giant bid

Aug 15 2008 By Neil Elkes

CITY councillors have ignored expert advice and taken a major stand against mobile phone giant Vodafone over plans to upgrade a mast on the edge of a public park.

Planning committee members were told they were powerless to stop the company increasing the size of its mast next to Pype Hayes Park, in Eachelhurst Road, Erdington.

But they decided that it was too large for a parkside location and at 6ft tall the cabinet base presents a security risk as a hiding place for “lurkers” or “muggers”.

Committee vice-chairwoman Coun Paula Smith (Lib Dem, Hall Green) said: “There is a real safety risk. These cabinets are getting larger and larger and can conceal people behind them. Someone can easily lurk there.”

Book Prompts Congressional Probe on War Intel

Juan Gonzalez and Amy Goodman, Democracy Now: "Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Ron Suskind joins us for part two of an interview on his new book, "The Way of the World: A Story of Truth and Hope in an Age of Extremism." Suskind reports that in 2003 the White House ordered the CIA to forge and disseminate false intelligence documents linking al-Qaeda and Iraq. While much of the attention on the book has focused on the forged letter, Suskind also reveals that the Bush administration and the British government knew prior to the war that Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction. We also speak to Representative John Conyers, chair of the House Judiciary Committee, which is investigating some of the explosive findings in Suskind's book."
