Being a good neighbour has cost a charity £68,000.

Galloway's Society for the Blind has pulled out of a plan to erect a mobile phone mast after a barrage of complaints from residents living nearby.

The charity say the action will cost them £68,000 – and phone company O2 will still go ahead with their plans on a different site.

Bertelsmann Stiftung: Deutsche Bevölkerung befürwortet weitere Reformen im Bildungssystem. Umbau des dreigliedrigen Schulsystems - Ausbau der Ganztagsschulen - Bessere Integration

„Fast die Hälfte der Deutschen hält das aktuelle Bildungssystem für ungerecht (45 Prozent der Befragten insgesamt; 48 Prozent der Eltern). In Ostdeutschland sagen sogar 60 Prozent der Befragten, dass sie das Bildungssystem für nicht gerecht halten. Besonders skeptisch äußern sich die Menschen in Deutschland zur Chancengleichheit: Drei Viertel der Bevölkerung und sogar 86 Prozent der Eltern sind der Ansicht, dass Jugendliche aus allen Schichten beziehungsweise aus allen Kulturkreisen nicht die gleichen beruflichen Chancen haben. Die Mehrheit der Befragten und fast 60 Prozent der Eltern meinen, dass alle Kinder eher faire Chancen hätten, wenn sie möglichst lange gemeinsam unterrichtet würden. (..) Drei Viertel der Bevölkerung (78 Prozent) und der Eltern (75 Prozent) plädieren dafür, dass das System der Ganztagsschulen ausgebaut werden soll. Wettbewerb und Konkurrenz als das beste und effizienteste Steuerungsinstrument auch für die Schulen bilden ja die Grundphilosophie der Stiftung. Dazu passt gar nicht, dass die Befragten ein Bildungssystem fordern, das sozial gerechter ist, mehr Chancengleichheit schafft, längeres gemeinsames lernen anbietet, mehr individuelle Förderung für sozial Schwache leistet und Schulen in benachteiligten Stadtviertel gegenüber anderen Schulen besser ausstattet. Solche bildungspolitischen Ziele lassen sich mit der ansonsten von Bertelsmann angestrebten Ökonomisierung von Bildung und Privatisierung von Bildungspolitik wohl kaum erreichen.“
