We Need Every Voice Raised This Week For SCHIP (State Children's Health Insurance Program)

Call your House member right now toll free at 800-828-0498,
800-614-2803 or 866-340-9281. If you don't know who they are you can instantly look them up in the right column of this action page, and use it to send and instant email message also.

Save SCHIP Action Page: http://www.usalone.com/save_schip.php

The word we're getting is that Republican leaders are afraid their caucus of cruelty is caving out from under them. They are afraid that the House of Representatives will join the 2/3 majority in the Senate to override the heartless White House veto of a health safety net for those just above the poverty line. And the evidence of their mean spirited desperation is their carpet bomb smearing of a 12-year-old child with a serious brain injury, personally coordinated by an aide in the office of Republican Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Yes, that's right, a member of the U.S. Senate actually has his dirty hand prints all over the despicable distortions about an American family whose only sin was having two of their children serious injured and hospitalized for months, and the courage to tell their story to the American people of the true value of the SCHIP (State Children's Health Insurance Program) program. Since which time they have been bombarded with hate mail, made even more terrifying by having their home address published for any lunatic to act on.

There comes a point when "playing" negative attack politics turns so monstrously ugly that the American people become repulsed by the spectacle of the entire mass corporate media kicking the head of brain-injured child around like it's a political football. Who did they think would speak out for this program, someone who did NOT need it? That's exactly what the sick minds behind this swift boat campaign want everyone else to believe.

If you have a Democratic representative you need to get them on the phone and tell them to stand strong and on this one and keep pushing until the bill is law, with or without the president's begrudging signature. If you have a Republican house member you need to get them on the phone and tell them they have turned your stomach for the last time. We have a victory if and only if do what we are supposed to do on every issue, speak out like we're supposed to win.

Save SCHIP Action Page: http://www.usalone.com/save_schip.php

They are running for the exits, folks. It seems every day another Republican House member announces they are not going to run for reelection, apparently to spend more time with their crony lobbyists. We need to pour it on with our one click action page submissions and phone calls. The veto override vote is scheduled for this Wednesday, October 17. We need very voice we can muster to make your impact felt by then.

And while you're on the phone we need to also keep pressing to keep the blanket warrants, and blanket immunity for telecom collaborators, out of the new FISA (Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act) fixit legislation. So let's keep the heat on there too.

Please take action NOW, so we can win all victories that are supposed to be ours, and forward this alert as widely as possible.

Origins of the state secrets privilege

Nolan Chart
by Walt Thiessen

10/12/07

The Bush Administration has been leaning heavily on the state secrets privilege as a tool for eliminating judicial opposition to its policies. This article, the second in a series, explores the origins of the privilege and shows that it has been routinely used to cover up government wrongdoing...

Bipartisan voice must be raised against funding to prolong war

Tennessean
by staff

10/13/07

Running into one obstacle after another, opponents of the war in Iraq are shifting tactics to prevent any steps that would prolong the bloody conflict. Democrats in Congress have had a series of setbacks as they tried to set timetables for U.S. troop withdrawals or reassign more soldiers to non-combat roles. Each time, President Bush was able to use his veto power or congressional Republicans were called upon by the administration to block legislation. With the weight of public opinion solidly on the side of Democrats in this endeavor, the failures have been disheartening — no more so than when the president called for a $190 billion increase in spending on Iraq and Afghanistan through September 2008. It’s the largest single request for those conflicts since they began. The amount is staggering on its own; added to the half-trillion dollars already spent on Iraq, it’s almost unthinkable...

The rape of the Bill of Rights

The end

The Libertarian Enterprise
by L. Neil Smith

10/14/07

Bad enough that this government, exactly like Lenin’s and Stalin’s before it, kidnaps individuals, and illegally imprisons and tortures them; bad enough that it starved half a million Iraqi children to death by denying their country access to world trade; bad enough that it’s erecting all sorts of internal barriers in this country and plans to demand that Americans obtain passports to travel from Colorado to Utah. The Bush regime is also issuing all sorts of directives to the researchers in colleges and universities about who can work on what, and with whom they can discuss it. These directives, little known by the general public, have made the conduct of science appreciably harder over the past several years and may even threaten to make it impossible. Add to that the more general rape of the Bill of Rights — the one thing that ever made America different from the rest of the world — the collapse of the economy in general and the dollar in particular, and you have the sort of picture that let me predict the fall of the Soviets...

NSA spying: What did Pelosi know?

Consortium News
by Ray McGovern

10/15/07

According to new revelations from telecommunications company Qwest, the origins of the Bush administration’s warrantless wiretap program predated the 9/11 attacks by seven months. That would mean the terror attacks became a convenient post-facto rationalization for what the White House already wanted to do. But — former CIA analyst Ray McGovern asks — what did Nancy Pelosi and other senior Democrats know then and what will they do about it now?

Bush administration should be held accountable for torture

When the President declares that he has never authorized torture, he is speaking a language of his own invention. The pressing question now is not whether the Bush administration endorsed torture -- plainly it did -- but what the country and the world should do about it.

This week we the people need to show Washington, DC, that we've had it and we're demanding they take the following on action on the issues below. If you're reading this early enough, one of these votes comes up today. See below: NO vote on H.R. 3093. Get on the phone! Our nation is dying right before our eyes while these people in Congress waste time in partisan bickering or selling U.S. out to foreign interests. While this body of failures, with a couple of exceptions, continue to waste time on endless legislature that is outside their jurisdiction.......
