Big Oil Targets Arctic Refuge Again
Big Oil proponents in Congress are again calling for opening the incomparable Arctic Refuge to oil drilling as Washington struggles with America's oil addiction and consumer outrage at pump prices. Please take a moment to tell Congress to keep Big Oil out of the Arctic Refuge. See Take Action, below.
Thank you to all who took action on special land acquisition projects. Last week, residents from ten states descended on Capitol Hill to lobby for those projects and for the Land and Water Conservation Fund. They were bolstered in their efforts by thousands of emails from WildAlert subscribers supporting those projects.

As Big Oil rakes in record profits and consumers shell out more and more at the pump, some members of Congress are casting about for ways to keep their poll numbers from plummeting. No surprise then that late last week we saw a renewed call for drilling in the Arctic Refuge as part of a package of proposed "consumer relief" measures.
Of course, it would take ten years to bring Refuge oil to consumers (if oil is found at all) and savings would amount to just a penny per gallon. But to Big Oil and its friends in Congress, this issue is seen as a symbol of their power, and they will not rest until they show that power by being able to drill in America's last great wilderness.
Your phone calls to Congress today and tomorrow are urgently needed. Phone numbers are below. Click here to see talking points and more info.
