The abundant studies repeatedly showing serious adverse health effects

I've just got two letters pub'd in a local monthly newsletter "Hollingdean News" - Hollingdean is an area of 3500 houses in Brighton of which the newsletter gets put through nearly all the letterboxes. One of the letters was sent via a friend. They were both however very heavily edited.

Below are the letters as published (edited) and the intro.

Gary

For years, anti mast campaigners have been accused of “scaremongering”, in spite of repeated applications by Telecom companies after masts are refused (which usually end with their victory), the abundant studies repeatedly showing serious adverse health effects and scientists across the globe appealing for urgent and radical changes in the law. With £billions at stake in revenue to the UK Government and Telecoms companies, it would appear wise for local residents to focus attention on the masts targeted for the bottom of Davey Drive and recently at Fiveways, plans to instal 8 -16 times as many 3G masts (way more powerful than existing ones) in the next few years and multi frequency transmitters in every lamppost.

Safety guidelines - "ICNIRP" (International Commission on Non Ionising Radiation Protection) were formulated in 1998 to ensure the safety of phone masts, but they only cover the thermal (heating) effects of phone mast emissions.

The Thermal effects are negligible - however, NON-Thermal effects are now known to affect the make-up of our bodies and how they work, posing real risks to our health and to our lives. Hence ICNIRP Guidelines are not protecting people at all.

The Regional Government in Salzburg, Austria have set the acceptable THERMAL limit for emissions in homes, under advice from Independent scientists, to just under 0.1 V/m – also referred to as “the suggested 0.1 V/m precautionary maximum”, or P.Max.

"GRAM" (Goldsworth Residents Against Masts) state in their comprehensive leaflet on microwave devices that "20 to 40 times P.Max may ‘have serious health consequences for those exposed’" - these levels are absorbed by people using any current microwave devices such as: cell and DECT phones, digital baby monitors, some burglar alarms, WiMax, wireless computers, interactive whiteboards in schools, bluetooth devices (eg headsets) and masts up to about 500 metres away, new generation games consoles and wireless entertainment systems, wireless music systems, digital streamers, headphones and Wi-fi radios. The ICNIRP Guidelines also ignore long-term low-level exposure to microwaves. There are now thousands of formal and informal studies worldwide by independent scientists which conclude that there are many and serious adverse health effects from such exposure.

Recently The Argus newspaper published two letters denying that there is any harm caused by mobile phones and phone masts, and continues to advertise microwave wireless devices whilst omitting omit to mention any of the freely available research into the adverse health effects of this technology. For example, in the March 29th edition, a JA Frapwell - on behalf of Vodafone - claimed there to be "no link between mobile communications and any adverse health effect.."

However, "GRAM" (http://www.gram.org.uk) has published an extensive document on wireless technology based on copious independent international research, which says otherwise. The main health effects discovered are; DNA damage potentially leading to cancers such as breast and testicular cancer, the worsening or causing of epilepsy, reduction in Melatonin levels - and increase (their error) in nitric oxide (NO) levels - resulting in: reduced cancer fighting cells in our bodies, sleeping disorders, increased cholesterol levels leading to greater risk of atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease, increased blood pressure giving greater risk of blood clots and strokes. Also increased are chances of serious disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, Lou Gehrig’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s, Tinnitus and Hearing problems, Headaches, and reduced drug effectiveness.

They say "Dect and Wi-Fi are the devices that we have personally checked and found comparable, if not worse, emissions, to Mobile Telephone Masts" and "A DECT monitor placed in a baby's bedroom will expose the child to more pulsing microwave radiation than living near to a mobile phone mast"

With the Government making billions from the Communications industry, does anyone really believe that either will report any harmful effects from their technology? Neither can afford for these devices to be thought of as anything except safe.

And is it surprising that The Argus dances to the telecom tune when the press, including them, are largely owned by the telecoms industry? GRAM's advice is unequivocal; ""Don't buy any of the wireless devices listed at the beginning of this leaflet. If you already have any, get rid of them".

So-called 'democracy' simply does not exist

As I have often said, rightly or wrongly, until such time as a causal link is recognised by the HPA or similar foreign agency between mobile phone technology and adverse health effects, the only real recourse we have in preventing the siting of installations close to schools, residential areas, etc is to invoke, as far as we can, Government planning regulations which fall over backwards to support the operators. Time after time, we appeal to our elected councillors to support us in refusing applications for telecoms installations and, with similar regularity, Local Planning Authority officers advise that there can be no defence and that, with few exceptions, approval must be given. Councillors are then threatened unless they accede; this is so-called democracy in the present day Britain.

In the wider sense, I expect that some of you will have seen the snippet in yesterday's Sunday Telegraph which I quote here:

"In February, I reported the disturbing story of Bob Mills, a Powys county councillor, who had been told that, because he had written a letter to the local paper questioning the benefits of wind turbines, he would be barred from the council chamber whenever windpower was discussed, though no such ban applied to councillors who supported the council's pro-turbine policy. Since then I have reported a long succession of similar cases, showing how the unlamented John Prescott's Code of Coduct for councillors, enforced by monitoring officers and the Standards Board, is being used to silence opposition to official policies, undermining the most basic principles of democracy.

Last week, I had a call from Sir Sandy Bruce-Lockhart, the chairman of the Local Government Association (LGA), the influential cross-party body representing 500 local authorities in England and Wales, to say that the LGA is very concerned by this issue. In Closer to People and Places, a document published in advance of yet another promised local government Bill, Sir Sandy and his colleagues - including his Labour predecessor Sir Jeremy Beecham - call on the Government "to ensure that councillors are not legally restricted from speaking out for their communities" on issues such as planning.

The LGA cannot yet bring itself to call for the outright scrapping of Prescott's crazy system, including the Standards Board. But at least it wants to end this perniciuous anomaly whereby councillors can be forbidden to speak for their communities, even about the issues on which they were elected to represent their views."

This says it all. So-called 'democracy' simply does not exist. Decision-making and influence remain firmly with the power-brokers, the big money people (who you now see scrambling in the gutter for honours) and foremost amongst this bunch of parasites are, of course, the mobile phone operators. But it's not necessary for me to tell you that!

MASTS: WE WANT MORE INFORMATION

Wednesbury Action for the Removal of Telephone masts.
http://www.w-a-r-t.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk

It is good to see that some councils are taking the matter seriously. All councils should adopt the precautionary approach and not allow masts to be sited within 500 meters of residential properties or schools.

Planning officers should also take the time to find out if existing masts cover the area adequately. If they do then applications for 3G should be refused on the grounds that present signal coverage is adequate.

MASTS - WE WANT MORE INFORMATION

Tewkesbury borough councillors want more research carried out into the possible health risks posed by mobile phone masts. Members of the full council backed a motion put forward by Coun Gordon Shurmer (Con, Twyning).

It said two studies published in 2004 provided new evidence of the possible dangers of living near a cell phone transmitter base station.

The motion called for the studies to be referred to the appropriate council committee for further consideration before the matter is brought back to full council.

Coun Shurmer said: "The conclusion of the studies is alarming in the extreme. I found them extremely worrying."

Earlier this year, the authority gave the go-ahead for officers to negotiate with mobile phone firms interested in putting masts on top of the council offices' roof.

Members were told that the rental from up to four masts could bring in £38,000 a year.

Coun Jim Mason (Con, Winchcombe) suggested it might be wise to look at the subject again.

He said: "We must put the wellbeing of our staff first, above everything else."

I was heartened when I heard that the HPA were to recognise ES as a real condition. I know from experience that it can cause distressing symptoms, but I also know from testemonials that it can cause severe disruption - and even devastation - to the lives of sufferers. However, since last November, I see no movement towards helping ES people in their situations - only advice from you to avoid the washing machine!

Quite obviously, the HPA have not "come out" totally. There is no link to EMR from mobile phone masts - which most ES people feel is one of the biggest problems. If the HPA recognise these microwave emissions as a source of the problem, then the advice to "avoid" would be rendered useless. How does one avoid a danger to one's health which is being forced upon us by the lack of planning control, the failure to adopt the precautionary approach which was recommended six years ago and the ongoing refusal to accept worldwide scientific evidence of the health risk.

It is my belief that more in-depth investigations should be taking place to determine exactly what is happening to people who are badly affected by EMF/EMR. It is not sufficient to be able to claim that "no causal link has been established". In this time of advanced technology it is perfectly possible to obtain hard data, from a variety of biological markers, while monitoring varying frequencies to which we are all being exposed.

The question I would now like to ask is: What measures are going to be put in place to allow ES people a chance to escape from the constant bombardment of microwave emissions which severely disrupt the lives of sufferers? What funding is going to be allocated to secure "retreats" where the worst affected people can try to recoup some semblance of normality to restore physical and mental health?

We have recently heard how much it is costing us for John Prescott to "retreat" to a National Trust mansion house surrounded by tranquil and unpolluted grounds. This would be an excellent starting point for an ES haven - and only fair when one considers that it is the policy pursued by the ODPM which has supported (often) unlawful erections (of mobile phone installations). Mr Prescott has recently stated that only the insensitive cannot understand the mental anguish of people experiencing trauma - Well, here is a chance for an example to be set by the Government/HPA/ODPM - because the physical and mental trauma experienced by ES people throughout Britain certainly deserves some urgent and decisive consideration.

I look forward to your reply to the above very important questions.

If I may offer a potential answer:

Why else would they continually lie?

We have to remember that the goverment as a whole is still made up of many individuals. And when you have a large number of individuals, it is highly likely that some are susceptible to financial offerings. Not only that, but the government has to weigh up all sorts of factors when taking sides in decisions. The government as a whole has a financial motive as well - and we know for sure that they are making billions from the phone companies. For all we know, there could be an entirely selfless motivation behind it all - perhaps the government decided that it could benefit more people by allowing these things than by preventing them. Or perhaps there are just some corrupt officials. Or poerhaps there's an official who doesn't want to admit that they were wrong and apologise because they'd lose their job. Or perhaps a combination of these. Or perhaps none of them. Perhaps an entirely different reason altogether.

Even when there is a clear direction and bias from the government, we cannot ascertain it's motive behind the actions. We cannot definitively say that they're trying to control us or take our money or kills us off....or any of the proposed motivations.

I think the best that we can do is be aware of the potential motivations so we can be as prepared as possible should any of them be true, but also be open minded and willing to accept new possible motives.

So true, and the true answer is QUICK CASH, not concern for citizen’s health and wellbeing.

Never-Ending CASH.

It is like the old OPIUM, for the General public”

No-one, but No-one survives without his mobile, (except some of us actually do, and quite well at that)

But, to the selfless motive!

1). If you look at the objection letter to a one2one mobile mast Tony Blair sent to his Sedgefield constituency (Sunday Mirror article 10-12-2000)

Support from Blair as mast is refused

From the Northern Echo, first published Thursday 7th Dec 2000.

VILLAGERS have won their fight against plans for a mobile phone mast near their village green, after Prime Minister Tony Blair gave them his backing.

The Sedgefield MP wrote to planners after worried residents in Thornley, East Durham, called for his support.

Easington district councillors rejected One2One's proposal to site a mast of almost 15 metres near the village green, which is due to undergo a major facelift.

The petition was signed by 760 villagers, protesting that it would spoil the green's appearance and was close to a play area and houses in High Street.

The village's Labour district councillor Greg Wharrier said: "There were letters from Tony saying he backed our stance that the mast should not be near the village green.

"He asked them to find a different site that is more reasonable for the village.

"One2One has 40 days to appeal so we'll have to see what happens, but we are hoping they will have talks with the council to find a more suitable site, hopefully on the edge of the village.

"There is a lot of opposition to the mast and if the company did appeal, then the residents would fight it.''

Villagers were also worried about health effects from microwave radiation from masts despite a report last year which found no evidence of any risks.

Councillor Wharrier said they were concerned at the lack of powers for councils over refusal of new masts.

"We want some legislation, either from the Government or Europe, that will give more control over masts.''

with the result of the mast siting being rejected on the grounds that the radiation had been linked to childrens leukemia, memory loss and headaches, it was near a playground and residential housing, and so, should be sited at the outskirts of the village.

Oh, yeah, pure gospel!

2). And then take a look at what he said in the B.ham post Mar 9 2005 Where he Quote: The Prime Minister yesterday dismissed public concerns about mobile phone masts by insisting they were safe and the Government had no plans to stop them going up.

http://www.buergerwelle.de/pdf/blair_backs_phone_masts.pdf

He says there is no evidence. This is the same man who stopped a phone mast from going up in his own constituency some years ago.

I have tried to present Tony Blair with the overwhelming evidence that is available on many occasions. I have requested many meetings through Labour MPs Mike O’Brien and Claire Curtis- Thomas. The last message I got back from Clair Curtis Thomas was on 26th July 2005, she said that Tony Blair’s correspondence secretary e-mailed to say that a meeting with the Prime Minister has been turned down not once, but twice. Once on June 10th and again on June 22nd, Claire Curtis Thomas followed this up with a phone call to 10 Downing St with a final request, this request was also refused.

How can Tony Blair say there is no evidence if he is not prepared to listen?

An amendment to the European Parliament's 7th Framework Programme for Research calls for research into electromagnetic radiation and therefore phone masts

Far and wide please :>)

Cheers

Lisa

Subject: research into phone masts

Dear Lisa, I hope you and your family are well. I am circulating the email below. It represents an excellent opportunity and I hope that you can pass it on.

Best wishes

Andrea

I am writing on behalf of Caroline Lucas, the Green Party Euro-MP for the South-East of England. Together with other Green colleagues, she has tabled an amendment to the European Parliament's 7th Framework Programme for Research. The amendment calls for research into electromagnetic radiation and therefore phone masts. As I am sure you will agree, there is an urgent need for research into the effect of electromagnetic radiation on health and wellbeing.

The amendment in question is number 629, pasted at the end of this message. It relates to the part of the programme which talks about Information Communication Technology research in general, and Caroline has proposed some additional text (in red) to try and ensure that health effects are closely monitored.

It is likely that this amendment will not be very popular which is why we are asking for your assistance in contacting MEPs to urge them to vote for it. It would be great if you could call on your contacts to write to the members of the Parliament's Industry, Research and Energy Committee (ITRE) - the lead Committee on this dossier - who are due to vote on this on 30 May. Naturally, please also write to MEPs yourself! The list of members of the Committee can be found at

http://www.europarl.europa.eu/activities/expert/committees/allMembers.do?committee=1240&language=EN.

They are most likely to take note of approaches made by citizens / groups from their own country, so if you have contacts in other countries who could target their own MEPs that would be even better.

Please let me know if you need any further information; otherwise any help you can offer on this would be much appreciated. The success of the amendments may depend on it!

Your sincerely,
Andrea Smith

Dangerous additions to masts

The other day I noted 3 white vans driving in convoy, very early in the morning and one turning into a Mr. Williams' smallholding where he has a Vodafone and an Orange mast. The van stopped next to the Vodafone mast and on its side was printed something like _www.rtn.com_ http://www.rtn.com/ . These masts are fairly near our house and I looked up the website when I got back from the school run. As follows some of the stuff pulled up from the web.

Raytheon.com

"Under the leadership of Lt. Gen. Henry Obering 111, the Missile Defense Agency of the Secretary of Defense has been charged by the President to develop a Ballistic Missile Defense System that has four primary objectives.

1. Defend the US deployed forces, allies and friends around the world from ballistic missile attack.

2. Employ multiple layers of defensive capabilities and techologies to intercept missiles in all phases of their flight (ie. boost, midcourse and terminal) against all ranges of threats (short, medium and intermediate and long)

3. Enable the services to field elements of the system as soon as applicable.

4. Develop and test technologies, using prototypes and test assets, to provide early capability and to improve the effectivness of the deployed system by inserting new technolgies. (PLEASE NOTE THIS ONE!!)

There is a System and Engineering Integration Team which Boeing leads.

AND Battle Management, Command, Communication and Control (BMC 31) headed by Lockheed Martin.

Also, did you know that the British Royal Military College of Science gives masters degrees in guided weapons systems.

It is possible that this company has nothing to do with the vans I saw - but hey......what a co-incidence!! Tell your friends to be aware of any van, marked or not, near to mobile phone masts.

What we are really concerned with here is that it appears that new technologies are being applied to the existing ones. We already know that Vodafone are in big poo with bugging. We also know that CIA, etc are involved. I have spoken to several people whose opinion and technological expertise is worth listening to and Barrie Trower has confirmed that surveillance is one of the technologies not only being considered, but actually being tested.

What this means is that we now have to be extra vigilant. Who knows what is going up and where and what will be the outcome? Working together and chiselling away, we will get somewhere.

Kind regards,

Vivienne Baron.

Hi Vivienne,

We have vodaphone bulldozing here, laying the cables for the mast before the application is in etc. Not only that but sensitive people have had a rough (but different kind of rough) week or so here, including me. All saying words wrongly, having trouble thinking straight, pain in the left side of the neck which travels to ears and head at times, the usual sore throat, a sort of "can't be bothered to do anything" and inertia - which you know is way out of character for me! Another sensitive person came to see me yesterday and she said she was shocked at how I looked (Great pick-you-up line, but she cared, so it was okay!) She even phoned today to check how I was. No idea what is going on but th Hutchison 3G at west park sprouted 3 small square boxes a while ago and an extra small cabinet. Bognor was hell last week! (And some minor TV disruption here, too)

Bit off topic, but:

ARCO sold HAARP to Raytheon. If you believe in weather manipulation / modification, then it is interesting that Raytheon is into hurricane relief: http://www.raytheon.com/feature/katrina_05/k_ext_response/

Wednesbury Action for the Removal of Telephone masts. http://www.w-a-r-t.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk

Has everyone connected to the communications industries gone completely mad in this country, in the world even.

Yet another band of frequencies to bombard us all with (above 60 GigaHZ.), undoubtedly un-researched as to the likely adverse effects on plant and animal life. Possible military communications systems being surreptitiously installed on normal masts.

Like Lord Nelson, these people "see no ships" or the gathering storms of ill health on the horizon in the years ahead.

We feel so saddened that the young in particular are being brainwashed into thinking they NEED these technologies in order to have a full and happy life. They have already become addicts. We see it every day, a compulsive disorder, that drives many to get withdrawal symptoms if they are parted from their beloved phones.

Like Lemmings they will soon be running headlong over the precipice with their phones glued to their ear, to late to stop and turn around, and texting home on the way down "why didn't somebody tell me". So sad !!

--------

With reference to Vivienne's contribution of a few days ago, something has occured in my area which could possibly be connected.

My day started early with an elderly neighbour having bad nosebleeds. When I went in to care for her I was almost knocked out by the strength of the emissions in her home. Within a short while the blood circulation in my feet had slowed and they gradually became mottled mauve/red/blue and painful. My knees and neck hurt, I could not think straight, talk straight, or concentrate, and I felt quite unwell. Being sensitve to this technology I knew it was TETRA but I could not figure out why or how. I went back to my protected home to recover and visited her later in the morning when she phoned to say she had another nosebleed and felt unwell. She has rarely ever had nosebleeds before and she is 86.

Later her son told me that he had been helping with a charity run from West Park (less than a mile from here) to Felpham (perhaps2/3 miles away from West Park) He said that a temporary mast had been erected in minutes for the police to use, as they needed a lot more handsets for extra police. Some people complained of feeling unwell during the morning.

The mast was erected and connected to the Hutchison mast's electrical supply in some way, he was told, by a firm called Raynet but he didn't know how it was spelt. That was how it sounded. The mast was switched off once the race was completed and taken away.

I wondered if we could expect temporary masts to appear anywhere/anytime if the police needed to use extra handset! That is quite a scary thought for those of us who are unwell around them.

Residents' fury at phone mast

VODAFONE has applied to install a mobile phone mast at the RSPCA's Preston shelter after a previous controversial application was refused.
The mobile phone giants had originally planned to install the antenna near Ribbleton Library but this was met with fierce opposition from councillors and residents.

Now the company has applied to Preston Council to erect a 22.6m mast at the RSPCA shelter on Ribbleton Lane.

Three antennas will be on top of a 20m pole to provide extra coverage for users in the Ribbleton area of the city.

But the plan has been met with fierce opposition from local people, who are furious that the company has moved the mast just a few hundred yards.

Mother-of-two Sian Moore, from Ribbleton Hall Drive, is furious Vodafone has resubmitted the application. She said: "We have been given no information about it, except three signs have gone up on lampposts nearby.

"I've grave concerns for the health of my sons as this mast is so close to where we live."

Heather Holmes of the RSPCA said: "There is no real reason why it should not go there.

"The trustees have discussed it and if there is space then we do not see it as a problem."

Hi Geoff

Quick update.

The latest appeal has been dismissed! (That's four refused planning applications and three dismissed appeals for the same site in 20 months now!!)

We're thrilled to bits. Inspector Baird "acknowledged that the residents fears are relevant to my decision" but in conclusion only stated that the proposal would conflict with green belt policy.

We asked him to advise on 'repeat applications' but he stated that it is a matter for the planning authority.

Mr Baird noted that the church they implied had refused permission had never been approached and picked up that we have found and offered an alternative site in a industrial area in the cell. He said that they had not investigated this therefore they could not claim to have 'special circumstances' to use the green belt.

I'll keep you informed of future developments.

Best wishes

Carole
