Republicans accused of ridiculing evangelicals

Evangelical Christian voters have been a critical support base for US President George W. Bush. But their continuing support is now in question because of allegations today that some of the President's top political advisors routinely ridiculed them. A former official in the President's office of Faith-Based Initiatives says Mr Bush's advisors cynically exploited the religious right to boost support for the Republican Party while laughing at them out of the public eye. The revelations come at a time when evangelical voters are already threatening to desert the party over the latest congressional sex scandal, as Washington Correspondent Michael Rowland reports.
