Help Stop Cuts to Toxic Pollution Reporting TODAY
Tomorrow the House of Representatives will vote on your ability to access information about toxic mining pollution (and all other toxic pollution) in and around your community.
Thanks to legally required reporting of toxic releases to the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) Toxics Release Inventory, we know that the metal mining industry the nation's #1 toxic polluter.
Unfortunately EPA announced plans last fall to roll back reporting requirements for facilities that release toxic chemicals ? including metal mines. Since then, with your help, the public has spoken out resoundingly against EPA's proposals. However, these dangerous plans continue to move forward.
But we can still save the Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) -- and our right to know about toxic mining pollution. Congress can stop the EPA in its tracks, but lawmakers need to hear from you and now's the time!
PLEASE ACT NOW (see below for link)
Contact your representative today and tell him or her to support the Pallone-Solis Toxic Right-To-Know Amendment that will save this invaluable program for public health and safety. The amendment to the Interior Appropriations Bill (that decides funding levels for the EPA) would prohibit the EPA from spending any money to implement these dangerous changes.
Tell your representative to vote YES to the Pallone-Solis Toxic Right-To-Know Amendment TODAY!!
Thanks,
Alan Septoff
