Swine Flu: To Vaccinate Or Not?

Dr Marc Girard, MSc, MD, France, works as a consultant for pharmaceutical firms, including manufacturers likely to have an interest in influenza pandemic.

A positive consequence of the swine flu story could be a radical reappraisal of the ferocious antagonism between vaccine promoters and antivaccinationists. This time, by dint of ignoring the basics of drug development, things went too far – and everybody may notice. It is time now to go back, to understand that vaccines are drugs amongst others, with their potential of hazards and the inherent requirement of a cautious assessment regarding their benefit/risk ratio. It is time now to stop considering that vaccines must be beneficial and that they cannot be risky. It is time to require that the elementary principles of drug development cannot be so grossly ignored as they are nowadays as far as vaccines are considered. It is time to recognize that human body is not a bin for the dangerous gadgets that, through lack of professionalism, Big Pharma develops instead of useful drugs.

Bomb Iran now because...uh, what's the reason?

by Devvy Kidd

Yesterday morning on FAUX News Network, the morning stooges were gleefully talking about how our military could drop this big old "bunker buster" bomb on selected targets in Iran. We all know how well that has worked in the past. Well, what the heck, they're just collateral damage. Greta Van Susteren (FAUX) seems to be unable to find any new guests because she constantly has war monger, John Bolton, as her guest. Bolton's sole purpose in life seems to be that we must "bomb Iran now." Of course, that........

Fire McChrystal and get out of Afghanistan

Independent Institute
by Ivan Eland

10/08/09

The conventional wisdom is that the war in Afghanistan is a ‘war of necessity’ that cannot be lost if the war against al-Qaeda is to be won. This proposition is only now being questioned because the fraud-plagued Afghan election makes a legitimate government almost impossible and because the war in Afghanistan has turned into an eight-year quagmire that is getting worse by the day. Not only is the conventional wisdom wrong, but Gen. Stanley McChrystal should be fired, even if it means losing the war...

Telecom companies are an “arm of the government”

Wired

10/08/09

The Department of Justice has finally admitted it in court papers: the nation’s telecom companies are an arm of the government — at least when it comes to secret spying. Fortunately, a judge says that relationship isn’t enough to squash a rights group’s open records request for communications between the nation’s telecoms and the feds. … The Electronic Frontier Foundation wanted to see what role telecom lobbying of Justice Department played when the government began its year-long, and ultimately successful, push to win retroactive immunity for AT&T and others being sued for unlawfully spying on American citizens...

34 banks don't pay their quarterly TARP dividends

In a sign that more banks are under great pressure from the recession, 34 financial institutions did not pay their quarterly dividends in August to the Treasury on funds obtained under the Troubled Asset Relief Fund (TARP). The number almost doubled from 19 in May when payments were last made, and also raised questions about Treasury's judgment in approving these banks as "healthy"...

Bankruptcy Filings Spiking: Chapter 7 Booming

It is interesting what passes for good news in today's market. For example, Alcoa announced a profit for the third quarter. Good news right? Well if you look into the details the company has cut 18,000 jobs in the 12 months ending on June 30th and also planned on cutting an additional $2.4 billion in costs. In this economic crisis people need to look at the details before assuming something is just good news.

Health Care Reform

Keith Olbermann Special Comment

Death is the issue! How can we not be unified against death? I want my government helping my father to fight death! I want my government to spend taxpayer money to help my father fight to live and I want my government to spend taxpayer money to help your father fight to live! I want it to spend my money first on fighting death. Not on war! Not on banks! Not on high speed rail!

War Crimes, Crimes Against Humanity And Genocide In Iraq

Legal Case Filed Against 4 U.S. Presidents and 4 UK Prime Ministers

Today the Spanish Senate, acting to confirm a decision already taken under pressure from powerful governments accused of grave crimes, will limit Spain's laws of universal jurisdiction. Yesterday, ahead of the change of law, a legal case was filed at the Audiencia Nacional against four United States presidents and four United Kingdom prime ministers for commissioning, condoning and/or perpetuating multiple war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide in Iraq.

What Is Not Being Discussed in the Iran Nuclear Story

Bill Fletcher Jr., The Black Commentator: " Last week's announcement of the discovery of a previously unknown but suspected nuclear research and production site became a major story in the Western media. The Obama administration, along with its allies in Europe, saw this as evidence of Iranian duplicity on the matter of its nuclear intentions. Though Iran admitted the existence of this facility, the manner in which it did so seemed to be directed at heading off the expose' from other sources."
