Not welcome: Protesters spell out their message to 02

Furious residents are locked in a stand-off with O2 after an administrative blunder caused Hounslow's planners to miss the deadline to turn down an application to install a phone mast.

The base of the O2 mast has already been put in and this week several Sutton Court Road residents took days off of work to prevent the mobile phone company's workmen from continuing the installation.

Proposals to erect the mast on a small strip of land in the Grove Park area of Chiswick were rejected twice by Hounslow's planning department.

Ein Orang-Utan-Junges sucht verzweifelt nach seiner Mutter. Es schleppt sich über eine Palmölplantage auf Sumatra, Indonesien, die mit deutschen Steuergeldern subventioniert ist.

Für die Plantagenbesitzer sind die Orang-Utans eine Plage, denn Palmöl ist ein begehrter, scheinbar ökologisch sinnvoller Rohstoff. Margarine, Waschmittel, Kosmetika und Bio-Kraftstoff werden daraus hergestellt. Die massenhafte Herstellung von Palmöl ist längst umstritten. Der Film "Hier Bio - dort Tod" dokumentiert die fatalen Folgen der groß angelegten Palmölproduktion.

Die langjährigen Recherchen der Autorin Inge Altemeier dokumentieren die Verwandlung eines Paradieses in öde Plantagenlandschaften. Dennoch wird immer häufiger auf den Rohstoff Palmöl zurückgegriffen, auch in Deutschland. Trotz der bekannten katastrophalen Auswirkungen der Palmölplantagen auf die Ökologie werden zum Beispiel auch in Norddeutschland Kraftwerke mit Palmöl betrieben, als Ersatzstoff für Diesel.
