China Accuses US of Double Standards Over Satellite Strike
James Randerson and Mark Tran reports for The Guardian UK, "China today accused the US of double standards after the US navy fired a missile to destroy a failed satellite 150 miles above the Pacific. Beijing, which was criticised by the US and others when it shot down one of its own satellites last year, turned the tables on the Bush administration after this morning's space shot."

Experts fear debris isn't the only fallout from satellite shoot-down
"I don't see how other nations don't see this as an anti-satellite test," said Theresa Hitchens, the director of the Washington D.C.-based Center for Defense Information, a centrist national security policy institute. "They'll see it as the weaponization of space."

Stop the “weaponization” of space
Independent Institute

Space dominance has not been adopted as U.S. policy. But we are quietly edging toward it. And make no mistake: Such a policy would be regarded by other nations as an unacceptable violation of global norms and a threat to their sovereignty. ‘He who controls space controls the Earth’ is an assertion that began popping up after the Soviet Union launched Sputnik I in 1957. The assertion is widely believed. What would America do if we thought another country were about to place weapons in space?
