A UN nuclear watchdog report suggests Iran could be developing a nuclear bomb, apparently confirming long-held suspicions in the West. But Tehran denies the claims, again insisting that its atomic intentions are peaceful. Michel Chossudovsky, who's from an independent Canadian policy research group, believes that what Iran says hardly matters, because the U.S. is planning for war.

What Should Obama Do Next On Iran?
Act for the Republic and Independence
By Michael F. Scheuer
Explain to the American people that Iran is no threat to the United States unless we or Israel attack it first, and then it would be a serious threat to U.S. access to energy and would likely stage terrorist operations in the continental United States.

Nuclear Iran: Fueled by Fear?
Video By RT
Is it simply fear about nuclear weapons that is fueling this fight or is there more to it? William Weddin says the United States has sought to undermine democracy in Iran and has pushed it to be a military dictatorship ever since the Iranian revolution.

New chief Amano gives U.N. watchdog more bite on Iran
He may be staid and cautious in public, but the new U.N. nuclear watchdog chief has wasted no time putting bite in the agency's approach to Iran after what Western powers say was a lack of backbone under his predecessor.

Terrorism: The Most Meaningless and Manipulated Word
By Glenn Greenwald
Terrorism is simultaneously the single most meaningless and most manipulated word in the American political lexicon. The term now has virtually nothing to do with the act itself and everything to do with the identity of the actor, especially his or her religious identity. It has really come to mean: "a Muslim who fights against or even expresses hostility towards the United States, Israel and their allies."

War game shows how attacking Iran could backfire
Israel launches a pre-emptive strike against Tehran's nuclear complex. The strike is successful, wiping out six of Iran's key sites and setting back its suspected quest for a bomb by years. But what happens next isn't pretty.

'S-300 delivery a serious development'
Should Teheran acquire the system, a potential military strike on Iranian nuclear sites could become far more difficult, but it remains far from clear when and if Moscow intends to transfer the military hardware to Iran.

A "Good" Terrorist Captured by Iran
By Ray McGovern
If this kind of scenario is allowed to play out, hostilities with Iran will make the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan look like volleyball games between Mount Saint Ursula and Holy Name high schools. Can President Obama be so naïve as to be unaware of the stakes here?

Hillary Clinton’s war whoop
CounterPunch
by Marc Weisbrot
02/22/10
In a visit to Qatar and Saudi Arabia, Hillary Clinton recently said that Iran ‘is moving toward a military dictatorship’ and continued the Administration’s campaign for tougher sanctions against that country. What could America’s top diplomat hope to accomplish with this kind of inflammatory rhetoric? It seems unlikely that the goal was to support human rights in Iran. … The most obvious conclusion is that it is to promote conflict and to convince Americans that Iran is an actual threat to their security. Americans generally have to be prepared and persuaded for years if they are to accept that they must go to war...

Attack Iran? Please, no
The Nation
by Robert Dreyfuss
02/23/10
More huffing and puffing about war with Iran, this time from Anne Applebaum of the hawkish Washington Post, but first some words of caution from Admiral Mike Mullen, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs. At a news conference with Secretary of Defense Gates yesterday, Mullen once again reiterated his long-standing caution about a military attack on Iran, even as he laced it with concern about Iran’s nuclear program and Iran’s ‘hegemonic’ goals in the area of the Persian Gulf...
