Impeachment is Back on the Table

McClellan's Dish

By Dave Lindorf

Here is rock-solid evidence from a man who, as press secretary, was privy to the inner workings of the White House, of a vile conspiracy involving the two top men in the Bush/Cheney administration, as well as their top three staffpeople, to expose the identity of an important CIA undercover operative, Valerie Plame, and then, when caught, to obstruct a criminal investigation by Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald, into that crime.

Cheering for Ron Paul

By Robert Scheer

What can you get for a trillion bucks? Or make that $1.6 trillion, if you take the cost of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars as tallied by the majority staff of Congress's Joint Economic Committee (JEC). Or is it the $3.5-trillion figure cited by Ron Paul, whose concern about the true cost of this war for ordinary Americans shames the leading Democrats, who prattle on about needed domestic programs that will never find funding because of future war-related government debt?

One Million Dead in Iraq

Our Own Holocaust Denial

Institutionally unwilling to consider America's responsibility for the bloodbath, the traditional media have refused to acknowledge the massive number of Iraqis killed since the invasion.

Land of Broken Dreams

By Eugene Robinson

The American self-image is suffused with the golden glow of opportunity. We think of the United States as a land of unlimited possibility, not so much a classless society, but as a place where class is mutable-a place where brains, energy and ambition are what counts, not the circumstances of one's birth. But three important new studies suggest that Horatio Alger doesn't live here anymore.

Pupils taken out of school over phone mast fears

By Neil Graham

Friday, 4pm - Parents have pulled their children out of a village school after a mobile phone mast was put up just 100 metres away.

More than 50 parents of children at Orston Primary School have signed a petition asking T-mobile to relocate the position of the transmitter.

So far, 10 children have been removed from the school which has just over 100 pupils.

Parents are concerned about the risk the transmitter may pose to their children's health.

Lafontaine kritisiert neoliberale Dogmen

The Future of the Corporation

Robert Kuttner, for The Boston Globe, writes: "Last week, superinvestor Warren Buffett, America's second richest man, testified before the Senate Finance Committee on the subject of why people like him can well afford to pay taxes. In fact, Buffett is ceasing to be among the very wealthiest because he is giving most of his fortune away to philanthropies while he is still alive. 'Dynastic wealth, the enemy of a meritocracy, is on the rise,' Buffett told the senators. 'Equality of opportunity has been on the decline. A progressive and meaningful estate tax is needed to curb the movement of a democracy toward a plutocracy.'"

Banks Gone Wild

Paul Krugman, in a column for The New York Times, writes: "'What were they smoking?' asks the cover of the current issue of Fortune magazine. Underneath the headline are photos of recently deposed Wall Street titans, captioned with the staggering sums they managed to lose. The answer, of course, is that they were high on the usual drug - greed. And they were encouraged to make socially destructive decisions by a system of executive compensation that should have been reformed after the Enron and WorldCom scandals, but wasn't."

Climate of Fear

George Arnold, The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, writes about Ann Wright coming to Fayetteville the day after the Big Flour Scare: "It was only fitting. Ms. Wright is a retired US Army colonel and an ex-diplomat. After the start of the war with Iraq, she resigned from government service to register her disapproval of the war. With almost 30 years in the military and another 16 years of diplomatic service, you'd think she'd earned the right to dissent. Instead, she now finds herself on an international watch list because of misdemeanor arrests during antiwar protests."

Black America Left Behind

Margaret Kimberley of the Black Agenda Report writes, "The racial economic gap is growing, with whites moving ahead more quickly than blacks. Even more damning to African-American prospects, a new study shows that nearly half the children of the black "middle class" are worse off than their parents. Decades of accumulated, systemic assaults on black upward mobility are definitively taking their toll, making a lie of the vaunted "American Dream." There is no mystery behind the disaster: "If big business destroys entire industries that provide well paid employment, poverty is not far behind. If black people are targeted for prison, low marriage rates and lower incomes will be the result."

Don Hazen of AlterNet says, "If you think we are living in scary times, your worst fears may be confirmed by reading Naomi Wolf's newest book, 'The End of America: Letter of Warning to a Young Patriot.' Dear NewsTarget readers,

We interrupt the normal flow of natural health information today to bring you an urgent message about free speech and "thought crimes" in America. The U.S. Senate is about to pass a law that would criminalize merely thinking thoughts in support of the U.S. Constitution, or against the war on Iraq, or against any government office (including the FDA). All across the internet, top bloggers, authors and commentators are expressing their deep concerns about this new "anti-terrorism" law and how it could plunge America into police state tyranny.

Here's a MUST-SEE video featuring a recent lecture by Naomi Wolfe. You must watch this if you care about your freedom! It's an extraordinary look at how history is repeating itself in America today. Click this link to view it:

This is a frightening time in America today. You are witnessing and living through the downfall of a free nation and the rise of a fascist state superpower. Read the first story below to inform yourself now about what's really happening to our freedoms and Constitutional rights in America today. This is no conspiracy theory, it's a genuine U.S. Senate bill that's about to be voted on!

Society: Senate Bill 1959 to Criminalize Thoughts, Blogs, Books and Free Speech Across America The end of Free Speech in America has arrived at our doorstep. It's a new law called the Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act, and it is worded in a clever way that could allow the U.S. government to arrest and incarcerate...

Bush's Plame-Gate Coverup

Robert Parry of writes that: "In early fall 2003, George W. Bush joined in what appears to have been a criminal coverup to conceal the role of his White House in exposing the classified identity of covert CIA officer Valerie Plame Wilson. That is the logical conclusion one would draw from a new statement by then-White House press secretary Scott McClellan when it is put into a mosaic with previously known evidence."

Greenspan: The Bubble Man

Alan Greenspan: The Boy in the Bubble

Dean Baker, writing for Truthout, says that former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan "has long held some of the very top positions. Therefore, we should expect some pretty good excuses for the housing crash that is now threatening to engulf the US economy. However, even long-time Greenspan watchers had to be impressed by his latest effort at self-vindication. In a Wall Street Journal column last week, Mr. Greenspan placed the blame for the housing bubble on the end of the Cold War. There's no point in going through the argument, let's just acknowledge this is the work of a true master."

Did we think there was anything wrong with that? I mean, Iraq's a country that was invaded and is under military occupation. You can't have a serious discussion about whether someone else is interfering in it. The basic assumption underlying the discussion is that we own the world."

November in Berlin. Derzeit seien 12 Prozent der Unterstützten, also 86.000 Personen, Rentner. Er rechne aber damit, dass sich deren Anteil "bald rapide erhöhen wird". Bislang scheuten aus Scham viele alte Menschen den Gang auf die Ämter oder zu Hilfsorganisationen.

Railway passengers ignore cell phone rule

The Yomiuri Shimbun

Despite railway operators requesting passengers to switch off their mobile phones near priority seats, many passengers are disregarding the rule, which is designed to prevent cell phones from having a potentially deleterious effect on certain medical devices.

All 31 major railroad operators across the country said in a Yomiuri Shimbun survey that passengers fail to follow the rules regarding mobile phones on trains.

Groteske Debatte muss ein Ende haben

23. November 2007
