A GIANT mobile phone mast could be sited yards from a children's playground and over the road from a primary school.

Vodafone has applied for permission for the 14-metre (45ft) mast at Preston Road, Linlithgow.

If approved the structure would be placed on the roadside verge at the corner of the new playpark, near Linlithgow Primary School and next to the Union Canal.

A separate application from Vodafone also proposes a new mast on Mains Road.

Linlithgow Community Council plans a formal objection.

Wireless device may have caused Qantas plane plunge

Passengers investigated over plummeting plane

Written by Iain Thomson in San Francisco

vnunet.com, 10 Oct 2008

The possibility that an electronic device cause pilots to lose control of a plane and led to the injury of dozens of passengers is being investigated by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau.

Qantas flight QF72 from Singapore called in a mayday and had to make an emergency landing after the pilots lost control at 37,000 feet. The plane made a series of violent manoeuvres that left 12 people seriously injured and over 30 more in need of medical attention.

“A preliminary review of the data indicates that after the aircraft climbed about 200 feet from its cruising level of 37,000 feet, the aircraft then pitched nose-down and descended about 650 feet in about 20 seconds, before returning to the cruising level,” said the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB).

Concern mounts over St Cross phone mast plan

6:20pm Thursday 9th October 2008

SCORES of Winchester residents turned out to voice their fears over a proposed phone mast on the tower of a historic church.

People in St Cross are worried about O2’s plans for the Grade I-listed Hospital of St Cross.

The phone company wants to improve coverage in the south Winchester area, and held a drop-in session on Tuesday evening, but it turned into a public meeting, with around 75 people attending.

One of them, mum-of-two Sarah Hampson, from St Cross, said: “The primary concerns are the proximity to St Faith’s school and the nursery.

New mast plan sparks anger

Published Date: 09 October 2008

By Robert Andrews

A PLAN for another mobile phone mast in Newmarket's Exning Road has got residents fuming.

Proposals for a 40ft tall Vodafone mast in Tannersfield Way, just 400 yards from a mast put up earlier this year by rival company 02 outside Newmarket Leisure Centre, were outlined to town councillors on Monday.

That mast caused an outcry after it was discovered that it had gone up as the result of a blunder by Forest Heath Council, which had failed to respond to notification about the plans within the statutory time limit.

Oct 8 2008 by simon halewood, Crewe Chronicle

RESIDENTS are up in arms after controversial plans for two 12-metre high phone masts in Sandbach and Middlewich were given the go-ahead.
