FRONTEX - Europas Grenzwächter-Armee

„»Wir schicken keine Menschen auf hoher See zurück", empört sich Michal Parzyszek. Er ist Sprecher der Europäischen Grenzagentur - kurz FRONTEX genannt. »Wer in Not ist und Flüchtling ist, hat einen Anspruch auf Aufnahme, und wer auf hoher See ist, wird nicht zurückgeschickt, sondern es gelten die Regeln der Genfer Konvention.« Das sagte Bundesinnenminister Wolfgang Schäuble (CDU), als er von Report Mainz zu Abfangmanövern im Rahmen der FRONTEX-Operation »Hera 2008« gefragt wurde. Davon, dass allein bei dieser Operation, die parallel zur Operation »Nautilus 2008« lief,

Torture victims should be able to sue foreign governments in the UK courts, a committee of MPs and peers have said. The Joint Committee on Human Rights has called on the government to take an international lead, saying the plan would help rehabilitate victims. Minsters have argued that they are bound by a state immunity convention and have suggested the move could cause international tensions. But the committee said practical concerns were of secondary importance...

We weren’t sure he was going to even go this far, but according to news reports over the weekend, Attorney General Holder has decided on a ‘narrow’ investigation into torture. In fact, it’s so narrow that it won’t investigate any of the torture that was authorized by DOJ functionary John Yoo at all. Using inverted pretzel logic, they are apparently going to go after those who failed to follow John Yoo’s directives. For instance, according to the LA Times, Holder will not investigate allegations of waterboarding in themselves, but rather if they failed to properly follow their waterboarding instructions to the letter …
