E-Card: Das Osterei - kauf's ohne Drei!

Their life is as precious to them as our life is to us: Stop Animal Testing

****Cross Post Widely****

April 23-30, 2006

"Their life is as precious to them as our life is to us. Stop Animal Testing."

NYC World Laboratory Animal Liberation Week

NYC animal rights activists and other concerned compassionate individuals will come together in late April to continue our on-going struggle to stop the killing at Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS) and other notorious animal testing facilities. Our week of action coincides with the global "World Laboratory Animal Liberation Week". Win Animal Rights (WAR) will conduct a full week of action, which will include a variety of events, geared toward educating and influencing both the businesses that conduct and contract for animal testing and the public which unwittingly supports the continued use of animals for product testing and research.

During this week of action, we will continue the work that we have been doing for the past two years on the streets of New York City, to bring pressure to bear on companies and individuals that contribute to HLS' bottom line.....their customers.....their suppliers.....their investors......their market makers. Events will occur daily and the best way to participate is to watch for future e-mail action alerts and to call the WAR hotline at: 646-267-9934. Meetup times and places will be posted daily. For your convenience, we will also be updating our event calendar on a daily basis.

MOBILE DEMO DAY

HLS CUSTOMERS & AFFILIATES

Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS) is a company whose primary business is death and suffering. 500 animals are killed there every day. They are poisoned, they are cut and burned, they have limbs broken and on top of that they have to endure the cruelty of sadistic technicians who have been proven, in 5 undercover investigations, to abuse and torture the animals in their care.

With Huntingdon's financial situation so tenuous, a continued revenue stream is of the utmost importance. Customers who are currently dealing with HLS and ones that sign new contracts, provide the needed funding to allow the killing to continue. What follows is a list of firms that play a key role in keeping HLS in business. You can help stop the suffering at HLS. We can close HLS down, but we need your help to do it. Call or write these companies today asking them to stop funding animal torture and killing at Huntingdon Life Sciences.

Join New York activists for a mobile demo day as we visit HLS customers:

Who: HLS Customers When: Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at 3:30 PM Where: 110 E. 59th St. (between Lexington & Park)

If you cannot join us for our mobile demo day, you can participate by contacting the following:

PROTEST PROPOSED COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY BIO-RESEARCH LAB

Win Animal Rights supports and promotes the concept that human rights and animals rights are intertwined. Consequently, we will be joining human rights and other progressive activists and community organizers at Columbia University to protest the building of a Level 3 bio research lab. A research lab that will no doubt mean the killing of millions of animals, as well as the endangerment of the local community, human and non-human. When you read the posting below, please note that Columbia University worked with GlaxoSmithKline on the HIV Aids Clinical Trials that were conducted using orphaned children as human guinea pigs. GlaxoSmithKline is one of Huntingdon Life Sciences largest customers.

Who: Columbia University When: Thursday, April 27, 2006 at 3:30 PM Where: 116th St. & Broadway (meet at the south east corner) If you cannot locate us, call: 646-267-9934

This is an issue that effects us all....an issue that involves human rights, animal rights and our community's integrity. We need to fight for our neighborhoods and not passively watch them build another horror filled death trap. We urge everyone to come out for this extremely important event.

*****After this protest, our group will visit local area executives that have financial relationships with Huntingdon Life Sciences******

Urgent appeal to the progressive community!!!!!!!!!!
Demonstration Against Columbia University’s Expansion into Harlem

THURSDAY APRIL 27, 2006
4:00 TO 6:30 PM OUTSIDE THE GATES OF COLUMBIA 116th Street & Broadway

Columbia University’s proposed 5 billion dollars 18 acres expansion in West Harlem from 125th to 133rd St. between Broadway and the Hudson River is not about creating additional space for students but about MAKING MORE MONEY! They want to build a biomedical research laboratory operating at BLS-3, the third highest level out of 4 safety levels define by the National Institute of Health that allows research on a wide spectrum of viruses, bacteria and fungal agents such as Ebola, Stars, HIV/AIDS and Malaria. Columbia really wants to receive billions in contracts/grants from the Department of Defense and millions more in bio-medical patents, currently only second to endowments in financing the University’s budgets.

If an accident happens in the lab or while the biological agents are transported through Harlem many of us would be exposed to contamination and even death. We cannot afford to trust Columbia. In 2002 the Environmental Protection Agency fined Columbia $797,029 for violating federal environmental laws including storing hazard waste in open unmarked containers. But that’s not all folks: The BBC documentary, “Guinea Pig Kids”, exposed the involvement of Columbia University’s genocidal role in using HIIV positive African American ad Latino children as human guinea pigs in tests for experimental AIDS drug trials at Incarnation Children’s Center, a subunit of Columbia University Pediatric AIDS Clinical Trial Unit. Columbia has a long history with pharmaceutical giants like GlaxoSmithKline whose annual worldwide revenue for AIDS medication is estimated in the billions of dollars. IT’S ALL ABOUT MONEY! COLUMBIA IS ABOUT “SHOW ME THE MONEY”!!!!

On Thursday, April 27th we need YOU TO join Harlem residents, business owners, students and activists to Say No to Columbia’s land grab, racist genocidal medical experiments and environmental racism.

PROTEST MAJOR HLS CUSTOMER PFIZER

Now that the LSRI (aka HLS) has been delisted to the Grey Market, it's time to focus our efforts on impacting their bottom line. The best way to do that is to take their customers away by educating them about the horrors and the cruelty that goes on at HLS every single day.

Approximately 70,000 animals are imprisoned right now, today. They wait in cold steel cages and concrete pens for the relief that only death can provide. Some of them have been poisoned, some burned, some mutilated and cut open........they suffer as they wait to die.....alone......in misery and despair.

500 animals a day are brutally killed by Huntingdon Life Sciences and Pfizer pays them to do it.

Who: Pfizer Pharmaceuticals & other HLS Customers
*When: Friday, April 28 & Saturday, April 29th at 3:30 PM Where: Third Ave. & 42nd. St. (Bank of America corner) If you cannot locate us, call: 646-267-9934

*After the office demos, join us as we visit key HLS customer executives in Midtown Manhattan.

If you cannot join the protest, please support us by contacting Pfizer to let them know about the death camps of HLS. This is the kick off to a national campaign. Pfizer is a company that would be a focal point of attention regardless of their relationship with Huntingdon Life Sciences. In the coming weeks, we will be releasing additional contacts anddetailed information about Pfizer's corporate ethics. Stay tuned!

Stop Importing Animals for Labs

a message from Eleanor:

All necessary information can be found in the Gateway To Hell website! Thanks!!!

Eleanor

We the undersigned would like to voice our disgust at the importation of lab animals through Dover port. These animals end up in vivisection laboratories all over the U.K. where they will suffer and die. We are calling on Dover port to adopt a policy of allowing NO lab animals to be imported/exported through Dover port.

Stop Importing Animals for Labs

* Primates are rarely bred in captivity. The vast majority of the animals pictured in cages in labs were once roaming free in the tundra of Tanzania, the sugar plantations of Mauritius or the jungles of Indonesia and China. Traders in the countries see primates as ‘profitable pests’, to be seized and sold to willing labs abroad. This despite the fact that most primate species are listed as endangered or recognised as heading that way.

* The cages in the labs, as horrible as they are, are little compared to the holding units in Africa or the Far East, where they are beaten, starved and generally abused. The journey to the labs of Europe and America is terrifying to already traumatised animals, and despite the amount of money changing hands, the conditions so appalling that a large proportion of them die – some from shock; some from simple starvation.

Every firm that handles them along the way, from the catchers in the jungles, to the handling companies and airlines, to the people facilitating them along the way, is profiting from this trade. They do so in the knowledge that they’ve been getting away with it for years and that the secrecy they operate in is enough to protect them. We plan to change all that.

Protect Golden Eagles at Altamont Pass

Take action: http://actionnetwork.org/campaign/Altamont/

Take action to protect golden eagles and other birds of prey killed by wind turbines in the Altamont Pass Wind Resource Area, in eastern Alameda and Contra Costa Counties in the San Francisco Bay Area. Wind turbines in Altamont Pass kill more birds of prey than any other wind facility in North America, due to their location on a major bird migratory route in an area with high concentrations of raptors, including the highest density of breeding golden eagles in the world.

The Center strongly supports the development of alternative energy sources as a way to reduce our impact on the environment, including reducing greenhouse emissions and protecting wildlife habitat; however, the Altamont Pass turbines are severely impacting raptors due to bird kills from collisions with turbines and electrocution on power lines. The Center has a strong interest in making wind power cleaner and believes there are numerous changes that could be easily implemented at Altamont Pass by the wind power industry to significantly reduce raptor kills.

Research by raptor experts for the California Energy Commission indicates that each year, Altamont Pass wind turbines kill an estimated 881 to 1,300 birds of prey, including more than 75 golden eagles, several hundred red-tailed hawks, several hundred burrowing owls, and hundreds of additional raptors including American kestrels, great horned owls, ferruginous hawks, and barn owls. These kills of more than 40 different bird species are in violation of federal and state wildlife protection laws such as the Bald Eagle and Golden Eagle Protection Act, Migratory Bird Treaty Act, and several California Fish and Game Code provisions.

Alameda County has now mishandled the first step in reducing bird kills at Altamont Pass wind turbines, with the County Board of Supervisors poised to appoint an industry advocate as a so-called “neutral” scientific monitor. The Alameda County Planning Department is recommending that long-time wind industry paid consultant and advocate WEST, Inc. serve as the “neutral” scientific monitor for evaluating avian deaths caused by the Altamont Pass wind turbines, despite a clear and continuing financial conflict of interest.

The County Board of Supervisors will consider and vote on the WEST nomination this Thursday, April 6. Please contact the Board of Supervisors immediately and oppose the appointment of WEST as the scientific monitor for Altamont pass avian deaths and insist that bird kills at Altamont Pass are adequately monitored by a truly neutral party.

Send a letter to the following decision maker(s): Supervisor Alice Lai-Bitker Supervisor Gail Steele Supervisor Keith Carson Supervisor Nate Miley Supervisor Scott Haggerty

Below is the sample letter:

Subject: No Industry Consultant for Altamont Bird Kill Monitoring

Dear [decision maker name automatically inserted here],

Please do not appoint WEST, a wind power industry consultant with a clear financial conflict of interest, as Alameda County's scientific monitor for evaluating avian mortality in the Altamont Pass Wind Resource Area.

Accurate and credible monitoring of bird deaths is an essential first step for the County in reducing the massive kills of eagles and other raptors at Altamont Pass. Accurate monitoring will be crucial for designing additional bird mortality reduction measures and evaluating whether new turbines at Altamont are effectively reducing bird kills.

The consulting firm WEST has served as a paid advocate for wind power companies throughout the County's permit renewal process, has demonstrated a strong bias against meaningful avian mortality reduction measures, and has a clear financial conflict of interest. WEST is clearly unsuitable as the "neutral" scientific monitor for the Altamont Pass monitoring program.

Given the County's decades of inaction in solving the unacceptable levels of bird kills at Altamont Pass, it is imperative that the County implement a credible monitoring program so the public can determine whether the County's mitigation measures are truly making progress in reducing bird kills. Please ensure that Altamont Pass avian mortality is adequately monitored and effectively reduced.

Sincerely,

Freitag, 31. März 2006

Cherry Hill deer hunt plan raises

From: "AnimalConcerns.org"

Springdale Farms doesn't blame last year's dreadful growing season on the weather, insects, poor soil or bad seeds. Instead, a four-letter word says it all.

Deer.
...

"It's appalling that the township is considering a hunt right in the heart of major roads and neighborhoods," said Stuart Chaifetz, an animal rights activist who created a group called Cherry Hill Animal Management Program to oppose the proposed hunt. "As soon as you start shooting deer they're going to run. What if they run into someone's house? They haven't thought this out."

The township wants to have the hunt before June, when crops begin to grow. Up to 10 retired Cherry Hill police officers would be permitted to hunt at a time, Platt said. They'd use buckshot, which only travels about 150 feet, and shoot from hunting stands whenever possible so their guns are directed downward. They wouldn't be allowed to hunt within 450 feet of any house, building or street and they'd provide their own ammunition, guns and equipment, Platt said.

Please help the foxes in Holland

A message from Eleanor:

It's really quite simple! There are helpful translations at the bottom. I thought I hadn't done it right but I received an e-mail afterwards so my letter went through! It's really important to write so that they stop doing this to foxes in Holland! It's horrible! All you have to do is click and fill in a couple of boxes. Please do it! *thanks2*

Eleanor

PLEASE FORWARD!!!

momma wont come back please read cross-post 9:25 AM

- The Netherlands - From 1 april 2006 dutch hunters may go out for feeding foxes (momma's) to blind them with light and shoot them. Also chasing and the use of cages and dogs of animals in shedtime, feedingtime and breedtime will be no longer prohibited by law by minister Veerman (minister of farming, nature and foodquality). This means that babyfoxes will be waiting for their mommies to come back. And that the mommies won't come back. This means that these babyfoxes will suffer and die of hunger or will be beaten to death by hunters. There are reasons to believe this has a lot to do with lobbying of parlemantairs of CDA and VVD (coalitionparties in government) who like hunting themselves and that for that reason foxes will be no longer protected. Faunaprotection is working on this to end the cruelty to the foxes in The Netherlands. You can help! Go to http://www.stopdevossenjacht.nl where you can sign and send a letter to dutch parlementairs about this issue. Let them know about your worries. They were waiting... and waiting...
