URGENT: Call Your Senators TODAY to Help Save Horse Bill
The American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act (S. 1915) is one of the most important animal welfare bills in U.S. history. Its passage would end the slaughter and international transport of live horses or horse flesh for human consumption in this country, saving the lives of almost 100,000 wild and domestic horses every year.
Thanks in part to the mobilization of animal advocates, the House passed their version of the Act (HR 503) several months ago, but the Senate bill has not yet reached the floor for a vote. There are only a few days left in the current session, and if the Senate doesn't vote on S. 1915 before it ends, the House bill will be dead and animal advocates will have to start the process all over again next year. In the meantime, horses would continue to be slaughtered for meat.
Horse slaughter industry lobbyists are working our elected officials for all they're worth to preserve their clients' privilege to profit from equine suffering and death. It is therefore crucial that animal advocates let U.S. leaders know that there is widespread support for a horse slaughter ban, and that the public puts horses' welfare above the greed of special interests.
CALL YOUR SENATORS TODAY and urge them to bring S. 1915 to a vote before Congress adjourns and to VOTE YES on it.
Richard Burr U.S. Senate 217 Russell Senate Office Building Washington, DC 20510-0001, (202) 224-3154
Elizabeth Dole U.S. Senate 555 Dirksen Senate Office Building Washington, DC 20510-0001, (202) 224-6342
If the above information is incorrect, get phone numbers for your elected officials here, or call the Congressional switchboard at (202) 224-3121.
Even if you have called before, please call again; we need to flood Senate offices with phone calls in favor of protecting horses. All you need to say is something like: "I am a constituent and I am calling to ask that Senator _______ immediately protect our horses from slaughter and cosponsor S. 1915, the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act. I am very concerned about horses and I don't want them slaughtered for meat exports or any other purpose."
Also please tell your family, friends and co-workers to call their Senators today. Working together, we can bring an end to horse slaughter in the U.S.
