Adam Price MP and Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM have welcomed recommendations that mobile phone masts should be subject to the full planning process. Currently, new mobile phone masts are only subject to the ‘prior approval’ procedure. A report commissioned by the Welsh government has now recommended that all masts should be subject to full planning permission.

It is 15 - love to Wimbledon Village residents battling to block the erection of phone masts which will be used by security officials in the event of terror attacks during the 2012 Olympics.

The application to build three phone masts on top of Somerset House, a block of flats next to the All England Club - venue for the 2012 tennis tournament - was withdrawn after dozens of complaints were received by the council condemning the equipment as ugly and unsafe.

SOUTHINGTON - Neighbors who live near a water tank in the area of High Tower Road are concerned about the number of cell phone antennas attached to the 63-foot-tall structure.

"The (cell) towers are right in the middle of the neighborhood," said Elizabeth Pirro, who has lived on High Tower Road for nearly 40 years.

There are now three cell antennas on the tank, the latest addition for Pocket Wireless of San Antonio, Texas. The installation took place in the spring, according to several neighbors.

The public said at a hearing 10 years ago they didn't want any antennas, Pirro said. "I thought they voted not to put any there."

Antennas to be hidden in flag pole

A MOBILE phone giant hopes to disguise masts in a flag pole at an Aberdeen bar.

Vodafone has applied for permission to install the masts at The College bar on Aberdeen’s Alford Place.

The proposal is to remove the existing flag pole and replace it with a replica, suitable for holding three masts.

Inspectors have rejected a second bid to build a mobile phone mast next to a neigbourhood pub.

Planners at Sunderland City Council rejected Vodafone's scheme to build the 3G mast next to the Three Tuns pub in High Street, Easington Lane, in January.

They said the 12metre-high column, which would have three antennae, would have a negative impact on the appearance of the area.

Hetton Town Council also objected to the mast because of the site's nearness to Easington Lane Primary School.

RESIDENTS are furious that a mobile phone company is going ahead with plans to erect a mast after an alleged discrepancy in their planning application was revealed.

In its application to Plymouth City Council, Vodafone said it needed a new mast in Stoke because its existing mast on the old Stoke Damerell School building was the subject of a “notice to quit”.

But it has emerged that Vodaphone were not asked to leave the site by the owner. The company now says that it is moving the mast because of security concerns.
