Property owners in south Donegal have been urged to think twice before allowing mobile phone masts be erected on their buildings.

The appeal comes from Fine Gael Clr., Barry O'Neill who said that medical evidence is mounting which backs up the claim that mobile phone masts and antennae have a negative effect on people's health.

It's hard to imagine life without cellphones, BlackBerrys and WiFi. But some people believe the technology that makes modern life so convenient may be hazardous to our health.

Mobile communications devices, along with microwave ovens, power lines, cellphone towers and wireless base stations, generate electromagnetic fields, a form of low-frequency radiation. EMFs have been studied as a possible factor in conditions from cancer to cognitive damage, particularly in teenagers and children, who have thinner skulls and still-developing brains.

A PHONE mast proposed for the Pickardstown area of Tramore has been given the planning ‘thumbs up’ - despite objections from local residents.

An Bord Plean·la has given the ‘green light’ to Meteor to provide the 21 metre mast despite the residents in Drumcannon, Ballinatin and Ballykinsella expressing fears about radiation and the visual impact on the area.

DISGUSTED borough residents have accused Solihull Council of not doing their job properly as phone giant T-Mobile erected two more masts across the borough this week.

On Wednesday people living in Knightsbridge Road watched in horror as a sub station was installed on the roof of an off-licence while across town work was halted on a mast on Widney Lane - which had been rejected by planning chiefs in May.

DONEGAL County Council has confirmed that a number of mobile telephone masts have been erected illegally near Ballybofey.

A number of residents in the Edenmore area outside the town contacted the Donegal News to voice their concern after yet another mast was erected recently.
