Tetra saving costing lives

Finnish 2007 comparative tests show Tetra mobile signal is the most troublesome source of digital mobile interference to medical equipment.

http://www.iss.it/binary/publ/cont/STAMPA%20ANN_07_32%20Hietanen.1190882108.pdf

Equivalent tests by the UK's MHRA were 'interpreted' to reach a conclusion that Tetra was 'no worse than' mobile phones.

http://www.mhra.gov.uk/Safetyinformation/Generalsafetyinformationandadvice/Technicalinformation/Mobilecommunicationsinterference/CON019620

Now that Airwave has been adopted by UK ambulance services expect the opposite to Airwave promoters earlier inflated 'it will save lives' claims.

Any such 'mishap' will of course be assisted to pass unnoticed and if ever identified the authorities accustomed response will be to blame the design of adversely affected electronic equipment.

Mast proposal next to Wednesbury Schools

Residents, councillors and school heads are objecting to a proposed 15 Metre mast close to two secondary schools and residential properties at the M6 Junction 9 exit.

Petitions have been gathered as well as private objections being sent to planning officers in Sandwell.

As usual, neither councillors, school heads or residents were informed at the time stated in the planning application, and notices on lamp-posts were put up barely two weeks before the closing date for objections.

ET demonstrated a really human need

http://www.lynnefeatherstone.org/column228-mobile-phones-in-hospitals.htm

Hello Ms Featherstone

It was with mixed emotions that I read your comments regarding the lifting of the mobile phone ban in hospitals. Reason? - Although I fully agree that the cost of making phone calls in hospital are extortionate - I do not believe that mobile phones are the answer - we had ordinary payphones before the "designer media stations" now wheeled to the bedside. I have long campaigned for the warning contained in the DOH leaflet "Mobile Phones & Health" - that children under 16 years should be discouraged from using mobile phones - to be more widely circulated and, as is now happening in many other European countries - more vigorously enforced. Our children are our future - but they are being exploited by an Industry which is like a rampaging herd of elephants...perhaps a little OTT, but nevertheless, it is true to say that the precautionary approach has long disappeared out of the window.

It was most distressing to see the initial BBC report (It's always the Beeb who fill the news progs with technology titbits) from a hospital in Bath - direct from the Children's Ward - the Manager marvelling at how great this will be for the young patients (sweeping aside the one question regarding how they might deal with any anti-social use).

I have unfortunately had occasion to spend many hours in hospitals recently (as a visitor to several seriously ill relatives). I cannot count the times when mobile phones have been a scourge on these visits - we have had to suffer improper use by other visitors (one time five individual phones around one bed containing a heart attack victim), patients and even staff (a nurse left my sister-in-law's chemotherapy treatment to answer her mobile phone - which was in her pocket). We also heard recently of a nurse who was dismissed after serious neglect of a patient while making a 20 minute mobile phone call.

In my opinion - for what it is worth - is that the last thing ill people need is a constant barrage of loud phone conversations or ringtones (the worst example I can call to mind was at my brother-in-laws bedside shortly before he died in hospice - another visitor's mobile phone loudly emitting "The Adams Family" theme tune for the whole of the ward to hear. You would imagine the owner of the phone would be suitably apologetic...but instead they let it ring for a while - obviously finding it extremely amusing. Unfortunately, anyone else who does not see the joke are left to suffer in silence (as my Sister and I did) or to complain - and be no doubt accused of being a killjoy or technophobe.

I am neither - I am just someone who likes to live and let live - but this technology makes that absolutely impossible - it is systematically removing the rights of individuals in every conceivable situation.

I can understand your wish to address the problem of exploitation of hospital patients - but would like to ask you to consider the full implications of the alternative we are faced with.

Regards
Cllr Sylvia Wright

Caroline Lucas, MEP: Correspondence about Mobile Phones and Electromagentic Fields

Caroline has objected to a vast number of mobile phone mast applications - too many to list here. You can however, read her correspondence with the European Commission and the UK and other authorities.

She has called consistently for a moratorium on mast installations and the rolling out of new technology until there is sufficient independent evidence to guarantee their safety. This approach, in keeping with the precautionary principle, is in marked contrast to the position adopted by industry and government, which assumes they are safe until proven otherwise. In recent years, Caroline's focus has been to secure funding for research at EU level.

You may also be interested in the written questions Caroline has submitted on this topic.

Legal Action You Can Take Against Forced Vaccinations

Petition re UK proposed compulsory vaccination

Takes 10 seconds to do...

You may be aware that the government is considering making vaccination compulsory in order to attend UK schools & to claim child benefit. The link below will take you to a Downing Street petition if you want to re cord your opposition to it. This will only take a minute.

My apologies if you've received this before or if you're not a UK national. I think this is so important that I've sent it to my whole address book.

I am concerned that such a measure does not become law not just because the issue relate to vaccination. It also involves access to the education system and the welfare state being dependent on adherence to certain behaviours and beliefs and would therefore set a deplorable precedent.

A Labour MP has recently suggested forcing all children to be vaccinated otherwise they cannot attend school and parents should not receive child benefits. Vaccinations can cause various injuries to children and also manipulate only specific parts of the immune system and not necessarily all the appropriate parts.

Council calls for change in planning process

LUCY BOLTON

21 November 2008 07:00

The chief planner at the Norfolk council at the centre of a row over a controversial mast plan has written to the government calling for a change in the planning process.

The Evening News last week called on O2 to scrap plans to build a mast in Reepham Road, Hellesdon, after it won planning consent by default due to a blunder by Broadland District Council.

Permission was granted for the mast after a letter sent to O2 by the council did not arrive quickly enough. Broadland has since changed its own procedures to ensure it could not happen again.

But Phil Kirby, the council's strategic director and chief planner, has now written to the Department of Communities and Local Government - the government office responsible - to change the law to prevent it happening at other local authorities.

Phone mast campaigners celebrate victory

2:00pm Tuesday 21st October 2008

RESIDENTS who feared three phone masts would be built outside their homes are breathing a sigh of relief.

People living along Rodford Way, in Dodington, were horrified when mobile company Vodafone submitted plans for a 10-metre high mast in September.

But they are celebrating victory this week after South Gloucestershire Council refused the proposals out of hand.

Campaign leader Mandy Sainsbury, who lives in Blaisdon off Rodford Way, said: "The battle is won but the war is not over yet."

Residents were particularly upset because they already have to put up with a giant O2 receptor and expect phone company 3 to put up a mast imminently.

During a campaign against the Vodafone proposals, homeowners launched a scathing attack on the council for ignoring previous agreements to consider mobile phone mast applications in much more detail.
