Inexorable March Toward War With Iran?

Joseph L. Galloway, writing for McClatchy Newspapers, says, "There were some things far more frightening this week than Halloween's small ghouls and goblins - and the scariest of all is the Bush administration's seemingly inexorable march toward military confrontation with Iran."

Phone mast plans approved

By Katie Adams

PLANS for a controversial phone mast that will give train passengers coverage when travelling through Box Tunnel were approved last night.

The plans were submitted to North Wiltshire District Council by mobile phone giant Orange for the 12 metre high pole and two antennas.

The council had received 11 letters from people living nearby objecting to the mast, which is set be positioned on the hill over Brunel's famous tunnel.

The war on telephone privacy

A perfect example of the integrated threat that U.S. foreign policy and federal domestic regulations pose to the freedom, privacy, and well-being of the American people is the current telecommunications controversy. Awaken our troops

What we really need to do is to support our troops by awakening them. We need to awaken them to the realities the media and government either refuse to discuss or at best give only an inadequate amount of attention to. Nobody likes to be played for a fool. Bringing Rumsfeld to justice

Bangor Daily News
by Pat LaMarche

10/31/07

I learned Friday that in the ‘Court of First Instance’ (Tribunal de Grande Instance) Donald Rumsfeld was charged with war crimes. Why Friday? Because Rumsfeld was in France and French law requires that the accused be in the country when charged. Hey, what’s Rumsfeld doing in France? I thought he didn’t like ‘Old Europe.’ This isn’t the first time either. He’s also been charged in five other countries including Germany. Since World War II, Germany’s had a zero tolerance policy on war crimes — so they get a jump on things, they don’t require that the accused be present. But the French charges could get real interesting. Some of the former prisoners of Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib now live in France and they can testify...

Japan withdraws occupation support ships

Agence France-Press

11/01/07

Japan on Thursday ordered home ships engaged on a refuelling mission in the Indian Ocean, halting the close US ally’s main role in the ‘war on terror’ due to domestic opposition. Japan, which has been officially pacifist since the end of World War II, has supplied fuel to US and other forces operating in Afghanistan under legislation first passed after the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States. But the government failed to extend the mission as the main opposition party, which controls one house of parliament, has vowed that Japan should not take part in ‘American wars’...

911: Moral Cowards and FBI Admission

by Devvy

I received one email from a real gentleman named David, who believes the government's fairy tale, but he's honest about it and I think does want the truth. However, like a whole lot of Americans, he doesn't want to believe anything other than the official story. Just like the families who lost loved ones. Just like former military who have served this country, some under Bush. No one wants to believe that rogue elements within this government would allow such a monstrous slaughter of humans and not lift a finger - or worse, have orchestrated events to allow it to happen for plausible deniability.........

Campaign victory as mast must go

Oct 31 2007

by Chris Robinson, The Journal

TWO major mobile phone companies have been ordered to take down a phone mast in Gateshead after tireless campaigning by families.

O2 and Vodafone built the 20-metre mast at the Glebe Sports Ground in Whaggs Lane, Whickham, last year without the correct planning permission.

The companies appealed against an order for it to be removed but lost. Government planning inspectors decided the mast was a “dominant and overbearing structure”, particularly for those living nearby, and the companies have been given four months to take down the mast.

Online-Protestaktion zum Gentechnikgesetz

Umweltinstitut München e.V. - Newsletter vom 31. Oktober 2007

Why Did We Invade Iraq Anyway?

Michael Schwartz, writing for TomDispath.com, says: "Why is occupying Iraq so 'vital' to those 'national security interests' of ours? None of this makes sense if you don't have the patience to drill a little beneath the surface and into the past; if you don't take into account that, as former Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz once put it, Iraq 'floats on a sea of oil'; and if you don't consider the decades-long US campaign to control, in some fashion, Middle East energy reservoirs. If not, then you can't understand the incredible tenaciousness with which George W. Bush and his top officials have pursued their Iraqi dreams or why - now that those dreams are clearly so many nightmares - even the Democrats can't give up the ghost."

Mast profits battle rages

By Gerran Grimshaw

CONTROVERSY over Selby's telecommunications mast rumbles on following a decision that will leave the district council with a much bigger share of the profits.

North Yorkshire Police and Selby District Council currently take profits from allowing third parties - such as mobile phone companies - to use the facility.

PARENTS TO FIGHT ON OVER MAST AT SCHOOL

09:00 - 31 October 2007

Parents say they will keep fighting to remove a mobile phone mast from outside a school.

The pledge comes after Notts County Council apparently ignored calls to remove the mast close to Lowe's Wong Junior and Infant Schools.

Campaigners have collected 1,600 names on a protest petition, which they have handed in to the county council. But the petition looks set to be thrown out at a full council meeting tomorrow.

Fires of the feds: How the government has destroyed forests

Ludwig von Mises Institute
by William L. Anderson

10/25/07

As the wildfires in California and elsewhere burn forests, homes, and businesses, and as a Katrina-sized evacuation continues, environmentalists and the media are making new claims: these disasters are the results of global warming. According to a recent ‘60 Minutes’ broadcast and new claims on CNN, global warming is causing these newest disasters, and if we wish to have fewer fires in the future, we need to ‘change our lifestyles’ now...

People who live in glass houses

LewRockwell.Com
by Michael S. Rozeff

There are only two ways to go in the Middle East: get out or get in deeper. Getting out is wiser. That will reduce the threats. Getting out requires that America reverse course. This course was set in 1787 but the ship of state didn’t set its full sails until 1898 and the Spanish-American War. Since then, the ship has become a Titanic speeding along as it heads for its iceberg. Changing course is the only way to avoid the collision and sinking of the ship. The alternative to getting out is to get in deeper, such as by attacking Iran and Syria. Bush, Cheney, and Rice have opted for this course. The U.S. Congress has for years taken an anti-Iran stance. What will be the result of getting in deeper? Under the best of circumstances, the U.S. will be involved in occupations that will last a very long time. The U.S. stayed for 50 years in the Philippines. It has been in Korea and other places around the world for 50-60 years and counting. Bush has said that the war on terror will take 100 years...

The 'Orwellian' Bush administration

The Bush administration continues to insist that it alone must decide whether a judge is allowed to hear a case that might harm national security. When Judge Harry Pregerson, who serves on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit, listened to Deputy Solicitor General Gregory Garre telling him that, he responded: "The bottom line here is the government declares something is a state secret, and that's the end of it. The king can do no wrong".

Giuliani's Foreign Policy Aadviser Sounds Like A Madman

Israeli general suggests to use Azerbaijan's airbases in strike against Iran

Brigadier General Oded Tira observed, "President Bush lacks the political power to attack Iran. As an American strike in Iran is essential for our existence, we must help him pave the way by lobbying the Democratic Party (which is conducting itself foolishly) and US newspaper editors. We need to do this in order to turn the Iranian issue to a bipartisan one and unrelated to the Iraq failure."

1. November 2007
