06 November 2008

I NOTE objections to the proposed mobile phone mast in Eastern Avenue at the Barley Lane Junction (Recorder, October 23).

The mobile companies are having to install more masts in response to pressure on their networks, due to increased ownership of mobile phones, and for mobiles that are becoming more sophisticated.

Phone mast move kicked into touch

It is claimed a mast sited at the club would be an eyesore for surrounding householders

by Jonathan Paisley

A DECISION over a controversial 50ft phone mast at a rugby club in an upmarket suburb on the outskirts of Glasgow has been put on hold.

East Renfrewshire Council leaders were expected to give the plan to site the mast at the GHA Rugby Club in Giffnock the go-ahead yesterday.

But they agreed to put off a final decision until next month to allow them time for a site visit.

They made the unanimous decision after hearing there was some confusion among locals over exactly where the Vodafone mast would stand.

The plan for the mast has sparked fury with nearly 100 protesters launching a fight to stop the tower going up near their homes.

Council leader, Jim Fletcher, has also opposed the proposal.

In a letter to his planning department, Mr Fletcher said: "The development is strongly opposed by the overwhelming number of residents who live adjacent to the club and their views ought to be taken on-board by the planning committee.

'Phone mast would pose health risk to pupils' say Green Party

Published Date: 06 November 2008

Plans to install a mobile telephone mast on a roof near a Rugby school could put children's health at risk.

This is the view of Green Party member Roy Sandison, who wants to make people aware of a forthcoming Vodaphone proposal.

The plan could lead to the technology being put up at the Davis Building near to Northlands Primary School in Pinders Lane.

He is also concerned about 15 masts which currently stand within a one-mile radius of each other in the town centre.

Mr Sandison said: "The proposed siting of a mast near Northlands School will concern anyone with any knowledge about the mounting evidence of clusters of cancers and other ailments near these devices.

6:31pm Wednesday 5th November 2008

By James Nadal

DISCUSSIONS have taken place to find an alternative site for the proposed Orange phone mast near Foxes Piece School, Marlow.

Residents were outraged after a council blunder gave planning permission for a 40ft mobile phone mast next to the primary school.

As revealed by the Bucks Free Press, communications giant Orange gained the rights to build an antenna at a site in Little Marlow Road, Marlow, close to Foxes Piece School, after Wycombe District Council failed to make its objection explicit in the 56 day period.

WALTHAMSTOW: Health fears over proposed phone mast

4:14pm Wednesday 5th November 2008

By Claire Hack

PLANS to erect a mobile phone mast in a residential street have sparked fears over potential health risks.

The mast, proposed to be sited at a house in Jewel Road, Walthamstow, would provide mobile phone coverage for the borough of Newham from start-up company UK01.

Residents now fear that if the planning application is approved, they could be at risk of serious health problems such as cancer.

At-home-mother Suzie McKenzie-Young, 43, who lives in Jewel Road, said: “It’s a very highly populated road and a thoroughfare down to Lloyd Park and they’re planning to put up a 10-metre mast.

Phone firm in mast bid

A mobile phone firm is launching another bid to put up a mast in Kidderminster despite previous plans being thrown out by a government planning inspector.

A bid was first put forward by Vodafone for the mast in Wolverley Road in 2004. Campaigners celebrated after it was thrown out for good in 2005 after a Planning Inspectorate ruled in their favour.
