Fears voiced over mobile phone mast

CAMPAIGNERS are questioning the wisdom of placing a mobile phone mast near to a post office and a busy road.
Vodafone is hoping to erect the 12 metre high pole on land at the corner of St Peter's Street and Spring Terrace Road in Stapenhill.
The mast, if given the green light, will be positioned close to Stapenhill Post Office.
A notice signalling the intentions of the communications giant has been placed on the lamppost outside the post office.
Asimah Alam, who is also the daughter of sub-postmaster Nek Alam, told The Mail that the proposed location was 'unacceptable'.
She said: "This area already has issues with air quality due to the busy road and the number of cars that pass here each day.
"We don't need radiation on our doorstep joining with the pollution from cars.

Why do we need another mast?

Campaigners against a controversial mobile phone mast today asked why it was needed when there were already several masts in the immediate area.
The Evening News last week called on bosses at telecommunications giant O2 to scrap plans to build a mast on Reepham Road, Hellesdon, where it only won planning consent due to a planning blunder by Broadland District Council.
And today it has emerged that there are already eight masts in the Hellesdon area, all within less than a mile of the proposed site being considered by O2.

Cellphones in Yellowstone?
A proposal to expand cellphone towers in the park and install wireless Internet service in its hotels -- where TVs are banned -- has environmentalists furious.

Reporting from Yellowstone National Park -- Natural forces over millennia created the geysers, peaks and canyons that fascinate visitors here. But a newer feature is emerging on this stunning landscape -- cellphone towers.
One juts out from a hill behind Old Faithful; another crowns one of the park's most prominent peaks. Hikers occasionally stumble across cellphone equipment on trails around Mammoth Hot Springs. Visitors chatting on their phones have become as common in some areas as wandering bison.

Uproar over mobile phone base station

CAMPAIGNERS are fighting to stop a proposed mobile phone base station being built near a school in Grays.
Vodafone have submitted an application to Thurrock Council to put the base at Viking House, next to the Daneholes roundabout.
Parent Andrea Wright, 40, of Gunning Road, Little Thurrock, said: “It’s such a short distance from the Little Thurrock Primary School and I am not happy t these masts are completely safe.”
Ward Councillor for Little Thurrock, Rob Gledhill, has backed Mrs Wright’s concerns.
He said: “Councillor Ben Maney and I are appalled Vodafone want to add more phone masts on Lodge Lane.

The Norfolk council at the centre of a row over a controversial mast plan was previously criticised for a blunder by the Local Government Ombudsman, it emerged today.
In yesterday's Evening News, we launched our new campaign calling upon a mobile phone giant to scrap plans to build a mast on a site where it only won planning consent due to a council blunder.
People living in Reepham Road, Hellesdon thought they had successfully fought off plans for the mast, until it emerged last week it would be built after all because a letter sent by the council did not arrive quickly enough.
The campaign for O2 to reconsider its plans for the mast has already been backed by concerned families, MPs and local councillors.
