Plans to put up extra mobile phone antennae near city schools have sparked protests.

Mobile phone giant O2 wants to put an extra three mobile phone antennae on an industrial site in Clayton Road, off Newark Road, Lincoln.

The equipment would be added to a 79m high mast, which already has similar machinery on it, on the site.

Nearby Bracebridge Infant and Nursery School, in Francis Street, off Newark Road, has formally objected to the plans on safety grounds.

And the Priory LSST School, in Cross O'Cliff Hill, has asked the council for a written assurance that the additions will have no detrimental effects on pupils or staff.

Plans to erect a 30-metre phone mast in Holton-le-Clay have been delayed.

Planners have demanded that applicant Hutchinson 3G UK Ltd provides more scientific information about the dangers of such masts to the public.

As reported, the mobile company wants to site the mast in Nickerson Way, and the proposal has sparked controversy among residents.

Families fighting plans for a mobile phone mast in a busy residential area are celebrating today after the phone company has set its sights on a new location in open countryside.

Communications giant T-Mobile wanted to put an 11.7m mast on land opposite the Crown pub in Norwich Road, Costessey, but families living close to the site were in uproar and plans were turned down by South Norfolk Council earlier this year.
