I have eight questions for Dublin City Council regarding phone masts on top of Northside Swimming Pool.

As a former resident of Kilmore West, and someone whose family still lives in the area, I would also like to register my protest, in the strongest possible way, against the presence of approximately 50 mobile phone masts on top of the Northside Shopping Centre pool.

A CONTROVERSIAL plan for a phone mast is back on the table - but is now set to be bigger.

Vodafone withdrew original proposals for an 11ft pole with three antennas back in October 2006 after complaints from residents.

But now the mobile phone company has submitted new plans for a 12ft pole with SIX antennas just 100 metres from elderly residents' homes.

The plans would see the mast placed on the green area in front of the Methodist Church on the corner of Ludwick Way and Cole Green Lane in WGC.

This is a major breakthrough and a great success after a long fight with the School Governor's and the Lancashire County Council.We are now more optimistic that a similar decision can be taken in regard to the Slaidburn Crescent mast installation. We would like our local Councillors to renew their efforts in the fight to rid us of this mast which is having an adverse effect on our well being. Perhaps we can expect at least a review and confirmation from Sefton Council that they propose to take appropriate action.We look to Cllr Tattersall to take leadership on this important issue.

CONTROVERSIAL plans to erect a new mobile phone mast in Barnards Green were thrown out by district council planners last night.

Phone company O2 applied to put up the 12.5-metre mast in the Six Ways trading estate, behind Barnards Green Road. An application for a 15-metre mast on the same mast was thrown out in 2006.

Some 30 letters of objection were received from people who live or work around the proposed mast site.

Among their reasons for concern were the height of the proposed mast and its impact on the skyline and views towards the hills. There were also considerable worries about radiation from the mast affecting people's health.
