"Schieß weiter, schieß weiter, schieß weiter, keep shoot'n"

Ein verstörendes Video zeigt ein Massaker, das US-Hubschrauberbesatzungen 2007 im Irak anrichteten. Zwei der Opfer waren Reuters-Mitarbeiter. Ansonsten wäre die Aktion wahrscheinlich nicht ans Licht gekommen.

The Iraq war: Still a massive mistake

Cato Institute
by Malou Innocent

04/05/10

There’s a growing narrative that Iraq’s solidifying democracy makes the seven years of US war and occupation a worthy enterprise. Some observers have even spun Iraq’s March 7 elections as proof that democracy promotion via military occupation can succeed. Don’t believe the hype. The Iraq war remains a mistake of mammoth proportions. And Iraq’s election represents a pyrrhic victory, as the economic, political, and moral costs of the occupation far outweigh any benefits...

Former IAEA Chief: Iraq War Killed "A Million Innocent Civilians"

By Patrick Martin

Mohammed ElBaradei, said that those who launched the war in Iraq were responsible for killing a million innocent people and could be held accountable under international law. He was clearly referring to US President George Bush, British Prime Minister Tony Blair, and their top military and security aides.

"The Evil Scourge of Terrorism": Reality, Construction, Remedy

By Noam Chomsky

The reasons why Reagan's war on terror has been dispatched to the repository of unwelcome facts are understandable and informative - about ourselves. Instantly, Reagan's war on terror became a savage terrorist war, leaving hundreds of thousands of tortured and mutilated corpses in the wreckage of Central America, tens of thousands more in the Middle East.

Seven years of war in Iraq

CounterPunch
by Andy Worthington

03/22/10

Friday marked the seventh anniversary of the illegal invasion of Iraq, but by now, it seems, the American people have become used to living in a state of perpetual war, even though that war was based on torture and lies. Protestors rallied across the country on Saturday, but the anti-war impetus of the Bush years has not been regained. … Some activists were still burnt out from campaigning for Barack Obama, others thought the new President had waved a magic wand and miraculously cured all America’s ills, while others, to the right of common sense and decency, were beginning to mobilize in opposition to a President who, to be frank, should have been more of a disappointment to those who thought that ‘hope’ and ‘change’ might mean something than to those who supported the Bush administration’s view of the world...

On Anniversary of US Invasion, Iraq Is No Different Under Obama than Bush

We go to Baghdad to speak with Yanar Mohammed, president of the Organization of Women's Freedom in Iraq. "Privatization, no security for the working class, much investment for multinational companies".

After the blast, something didn't feel right, so 1st Lt. Joe Guyton looked down. Through the swirling dust, he glimpsed the white of his left shinbone. His right leg was gone, instantly vaporized, his uniform abruptly ending at the knee.

Thousands in U.S. protest against war; seek troop withdrawal

On the seventh anniversary of the invasion of Iraq, thousands of people from across the United States today converged on Lafayette Square, opposite the White House in Washington DC. Vanity of Vanities: The Iraq War Seven Years Later

Truthout Staff Editorial

In a staff editorial marking the seventh anniversary of the US-led invasion of Iraq, the editors of Truthout write: "We are still shocked. We were never awed. We have not adjusted. The senseless waste of our blood and treasure, our honor and our reputation continue. Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom - the latter unleashed seven years ago today - have morphed into a single Operation Enduring Occupation, set to bankrupt this country financially as well as morally, to destroy our own security as it has that of the over 31 million people who populate Iraq."

Cultural Cleansing in Iraq

Lieven De Cauter, Truthout: "With the anniversary of the war waged on Iraq, I think of what I wrote seven years ago: that this illegal invasion had nothing to do with the war on terror, but was planned well in advance, and was not about democracy but about the destruction of Iraq. I was openly taunted for it. At best, I was considered endearing or pathetic in my anger, but not on the level when it came to world politics."

Groups Discuss Soldiers' Conscience Issues

Mary Susan Littlepage, Truthout: "On Sunday, more than 80 national religious, academic, advocacy and veterans' leaders will lead a discussion titled, Truth Commission on Conscience in War. The discussion, centering on issues of conscience facing service members in war, will launch the commission's eight-month campaign to bring national attention to decisions of moral and religious conscience facing American service members.

Victory at Last?

William Rivers Pitt, Truthout: "Take a moment with this. That is the cover of Newsweek from the first week of March, the month in which we will mark the seventh anniversary of the invasion and occupation of Iraq. It was 2,555 days ago this Saturday, in fact, when televisions all across America lit up with the pyrotechnic images of 'Shock and Awe,' when explosions and fire roared over the city of Baghdad, when men, women and children were incinerated, when we all became war criminals whether we liked it or not."

The ugly history of “Christian” America

Classically Liberal
by CLS

03/17/10

Between the arrival of Columbus in the West Indies and the American Revolution there were numerous colonies, which tended to differ from one another. It was during this period that Christianity, or more precisely, specific strains of Christianity, did hold political power. If ever there was a time when there was a ‘Christian America’ this was it. It is also a time that most Americans know nothing about. Perhaps because it was a very ugly period in American history, which contradicts the rosy view of America held by most citizens today...
