Jobkiller Bundesregierung

18. Februar 2010

Many law enforcement officers called up to fight in Iraq and Afghanistan are finding it difficult to readjust to their jobs once home, bringing back heightened survival instincts that may make them quicker to use force and showing less patience toward the people they serve.

Executive orders, nullification, and recess appointments

Nolan Chart

02/17/10

Make no mistake about it, over time an imperial presidency has been built in Washington by both Republicans and Democrats. Executive orders, presidential nullification, and unconstitutional recess appointments have been used by presidents to achieve objectives they could not get legally through Congress. It has made a mockery of the Constitution and at times has had serious consequences for American citizens. Congress must reassert its authority over these matters...

63% say federal lawmakers should not be re-elected, but 51% say their own representative should be re-elected. What this disparity represents is the unwillingness or inability of the American voter, in the aggregate, to admit responsibility for the reproduction of the problem that is the Democratic-Republican two-party state and duopoly system of government: it is always someone else’s representative who is the representative of the problem. But the reality is exactly the opposite. If you are dissatisfied with the federal legislature, and you continue to vote for Republicans or Democrats, you are the problem...

Ost-West-Schere klafft weiterhin eklatant auseinander.

USA's Global Military Dominance

Real Reason for Sanctions Against Iran

By Eric Sommer

The U.S.-sponsored drive to impose new economic sanctions on Iran has nothing to do with the noble cause of limiting proliferation of nuclear weapons on the planet. Tagged and tracked by your own cell phone

Disloyal Opposition
by JD Tuccille

02/16/10

Last Friday, federal attorneys told the U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals that government officials should be able to track the location of Americans by following their cell phone transmissions — without having to get a warrant. While the FBI and state and local officials have already obtained logs from mobile phone companies that reveal the locations of customers’ telephones, the practice has never formally been endorsed by the courts. Report: US state pension funds face $1 trillion shortfall

Reuters

02/18/10

U.S. states face a total shortfall of at least $1 trillion in their funds for employees’ pensions and retirement benefits, and their financial problems are quickly mounting, according to a report released by the Pew Center on the States on Thursday. Illinois is in the worst shape, with only 54 percent of its pension obligations funded, according to the report, which looked at fiscal year 2008. Because the analysis did not encompass the final six months of calendar year 2008 — most states’ fiscal year’s end during the summer — it does not include the market downturn that devastated many funds’ investment portfolios...

If you’re known by the company you keep, then the United States may want to re-think its economic policy. The 2010 Index of Economic Freedom, a joint publication of the Heritage Foundation and the Wall Street Journal, measures the world’s nations according to a range of criteria from the ease of starting a business, to protection of property rights, to various forms of government interventions. Among the 15 ‘biggest losers’ during the past year was the United States, placing it among the likes of Libya, Uzbekistan, Mongolia, and Venezuela...

Stimulus Day

02/17/10

Today marks one year since President Obama signed the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act, otherwise known as the stimulus, into law in Denver, Colorado. In January 2009, Obama administration economists predicted the stimulus would hold unemployment to 8 percent, and that without a stimulus unemployment would rise to 9 percent. Instead, unemployment rose to a high of 10.1 percent before falling to 9.7 percent in January 2010. Majorities now oppose the stimulus. Only six percent of respondents in the recent New York Times / CBS News poll believe the stimulus has already created jobs...
