Out West, a New Kind of Water War

DeeDee Correll, The Los Angeles Times: "In rural Chaffee County, Colorado, one of the world's largest beverage companies has discovered water it deems fit for a bottle: clean and crisp, with the mountain spring flavor people are willing to pay for. Nestle Waters North America wants to tap an aquifer feeding a pair of springs near Salida, southwest of Colorado Springs, and draw 65 million gallons of water per year to bottle and sell under its Arrowhead brand. But many mountain residents say Nestle should go bottle someone else's water."

Sandwell Gateway Icon

Your help required urgently if you travel through Junction 9 on the M6, Wednesbury.

Sandwell council have received a revised planning application for the "Sandwell Gateway Icon".

The original application contained a section which included at least two mobile telephone mast systems to be howsed within the structure. Application DC/08/50100. http://planapps.sandwell.gov.uk/MULTIWAM/showCaseFile.do?appType=Planning&appNumber=DC/08/50100

The recent application has dropped this part. It is our contention that this will enable the structure to stand more chance of being approved, and then at a later date the masts will be installed as there would then be no reason to reject on the grounds of loss of amenity or eyesore etc, as the antenna would be enclosed within the structure and not be seen.

Briefly the Icon will be an 80 meters long and 75 meteres high 3D advertising edific which will be lit up 24/7. A monstrosity.

You can view details at the following sandwell web site:-

http://planapps.sandwell.gov.uk/MULTIWAM/showCaseFile.do?appType=Planning&appNumber=DC/09/5641A

We would appreciate any assistance you can give by objecting to this application (DC/09/5641A) on the grounds of safety, or for anyone who lives in the area, eyesore and loss of amenity etc. at

http://webcaps.sandwell.gov.uk/PublicAccess/tdc/DcApplication/application_comments_entryform.aspx?caseno=KGCQ4QNR03300

The original application was withdrawn, as the developer had a 500 name petition submitted to planning, including w-a-r-t and other residents written objections.

It is vital that if you do object as travellers or visitors to the area that your objections are sent BEFORE APRIL 8th.

Thanks in advance

Peter & Ann Mobley

The Fall of the Presidential Pardon

Maya Schenwar, Truthout: "Although all recent presidents have granted few pardons, Bush's rate was exceptionally low. He tied with his father for the lowest-ever percentage of granted pardons (conviction reversals) - 9.8 percent - and he granted an astonishingly tiny number of requested commutations (shortened sentences): 0.012 percent. Bush's abstinence on the pardon front had some of his friends grumbling (Dick Cheney complained, poetically, that the president had left Scooter Libby 'hanging in the wind'), but it was a relief to many of his critics. The word 'pardon' conjured up images of Libby, Stevens and GOP Congressman-turned-felon Randy Cunningham - not the thousands of nonviolent offenders languishing in federal prisons across the country."

Did Obama really fire the chairman of General Motors?

"We the People" to "King of the World": "YOU'RE FIRED!"

Michael Moore, MichaelMoore.com: "Nothing like it has ever happened. The President of the United States, the elected representative of the people, has just told the head of General Motors - a company that's spent more years at #1 on the Fortune 500 list than anyone else - 'You're fired!' BKA und Telekom rastern illegal die Bevölkerung

2. April 2009

Zur Enthüllung der rechtswidrigen Rasterung aller Telekomkunden durch BKA und Telekom erklärt das Mitglied des Parteivorstandes Jan Korte
(MdB):

Delight as Lyme mast plan is dropped

10:32am Thursday 2nd April 2009

By Adrianne Maslen

OBJECTORS to a new mobile phone mast say their fight has been won after the plans were scrapped this week.

Phone company Telefónica O2 wanted to raise a 20m transmitter on a piece of derelict land in Lyme Regis Industrial Estate to improve network coverage in the area.

Anxious residents living near the site launched a campaign to stop the move claiming it would seriously put their health at risk and create an unsightly blot on the landscape.

They also had major concerns for the wellbeing of the hundreds of Woodroffe School pupils who use the footpath just metres from the proposed site.

Obama follows in Hoover’s footsteps

OpenMarket.org
by Hans Bader

04/01/09

During the Great Depression, Herbert Hoover damaged the economy, and impoverished the American people, with costly, artificial attempts to stimulate the economy through increased government spending, financed by heavy taxes like the Revenue Act of 1932. Obama is now doing the same thing through his proposed $2 trillion cap-and-trade tax scheme. That tax fulfills his prediction in 2008 to the San Francisco Chronicle (which didn’t report it) that ‘Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket’...

Too big to succeed

Foundation for Economic Education
by Lawrence W. Reed

04/01/09

In 1890, Americans were outraged that their House of Representatives in Washington spent a record billion dollars in just two years’ time. They punished the ‘Billion Dollar Congress’ in the elections that year by making the majority party the minority party, cutting its roster in the House by more than 90 seats. Think about that. The American people were mad as wet hens because Congress spent half a billion dollars in twelve months and then another half billion again the very next year. But the lawmakers of 1890 were skinflints compared to the porkers in Washington these days...

Wake up, America. The boys are coming home, and they’re not the boys who went away.

On New Year’s Day, the New York Times welcomed the advent of 2009 by reporting that, since returning from Iraq, nine members of the Fort Carson, Colorado, Fourth Brigade Combat team had been charged with homicide. Five of the murders they were responsible for took place in 2008 when, in addition, “charges of domestic violence, rape and sexual assault” at the base rose sharply. Some of the murder victims were chosen at random; four were fellow soldiers — all men. Three were wives or girlfriends. This shouldn’t be a surprise. Men sent to Iraq or Afghanistan for two, three, or four tours of duty return to wives who find them “changed” and children they barely know...

In for a penny, in for $2.98 trillion

The Nation

The good news on the government’s ‘No Banker Left Behind’ program is that according to the special inspector general’s report on Tuesday, the total handout to date is still less than 3 trillion dollars. It’s only 2.98 trillion to be precise, an amount six times greater than will be spent by federal, state and local governments this year on educating the fifty million American children in elementary and secondary schools. The bad news is that even greater amounts of money are to be thrown down what has to be the world record for rat holes...

DOJ Watchdog "Revising" Critical Report on John Yoo's Legal Work on Torture

Jason Leopold, Truthout: "A Justice Department watchdog report that is said to be highly critical of the legal work conducted for the Bush administration by three attorneys who worked at the agency’s powerful Office of Legal Counsel is in the process of being revised after the agency received responses on the report's conclusions from the attorneys under scrutiny, according to a letter sent to two Democratic senators by a Justice Department’s acting assistant attorney general. The Justice Department’s Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) is apparently 'watering' down some of the more critical conclusions related to legal opinions on 'enhanced interrogation' policies based on responses from John Yoo, Steven Bradbury and Jay Bybee. Are mobile phone masts the cause of bee deaths?

dave.tanner@archant.co.uk

01 April 2009

SIR - Scientists from Edinburgh and Oxford Universities are studying swarm behaviour.

Apparently, most swarms use their large groups to protect themselves, their own interests, unlike ants and bees which work together as a single unit and are prepared to die for the greater good of the colony.

No, I am not suggesting politicians show the same commitment!

I was reminded of these swarming instincts when I read that been colonies have suffered significant losses in the last two years.

Democrats Duck Bush Torture Probe

In These Times
by Jason Leopold

03/31/09

Last June, House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers and 55 other congressional Democrats signed a letter to then-Attorney General Michael Mukasey demanding a special prosecutor to investigate the growing body of evidence that Bush administration officials had sanctioned torture, which had been documented by the International Committee of the Red Cross. Not unexpectedly, Mukasey — a staunch defender of Bush’s theories about expansive presidential powers — ignored the letter. Now, however, despite even more evidence of torture and a Democratic administration in place, the calls for a special prosecutor have grown muted. Aides to several Democratic lawmakers who signed the June 2008 letter told me that the focus has shifted to the economy and that pressure for a special prosecutor to bring criminal charges over the Bush administration’s past actions could become a distraction to that focus...

On a micro level people don’t believe in the abolition of drugs because others can’t be trusted with ‘legal’ drugs. On a macro level America believes in controlling other people’s countries regardless of whether they pose a legitimate threat or not...

Neoconservatism: The return

AntiWar.Com
by Justin Raimondo

04/01/09

It was a neocon moment: there they were, the organizers of the Foreign Policy Initiative, the new neoconservative think-tank — Bill Kristol, Dan Senor, and Robert Kagan, with Clifford May, Randy Scheunemann, and junior neocon James Kirchick in tow. It was the occasion of FPI’s first public event — their Washington coming out party, so to speak — and who should show up but I. Lewis ‘Scooter’ Libby. A more fitting symbol of the neoconservative tendency in American politics — its history, its methods, and its essential criminality — could hardly be conceived. While John McCain was ostensibly the main attraction, the real focus of the conference was a celebration of the man who defeated him...

Beware the cult of Obama

Cato Institute
by Gene Healy

03/30/09

You’ve met them. They may be friends of yours, or family members. You may even be one of them (in which case you’ll hate this column). I’m referring to those who’ve heard the Call of Obama. Tucker Carlson compares it to a dog whistle: Inaudible to most, but irresistible to those who can hear it. … Conservatives like to think they’re above this sort of thing. Their attitude is summed up by the subtitle of Jerome Corsi’s recent bestseller: Obama Nation: Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality. But any conservative who thinks cultishness is exclusively a leftist phenomenon ought to take a good long look in the mirror. Because many of those who decry the “cult of Obama” are the same people who made a flight-suited action figure hero out of such common clay as George W. Bush...

Neo-Cons and Moral Degeneracy

By Jacob G. Hornberger

What is fascinating to me is how so many conservatives, neo-cons, and liberals fail to recognize the morally degeneracy of U.S. foreign policy. It's as if they have just resigned themselves into accepting that the U.S. Empire is now a permanent feature in American life and the life of the world and, therefore, that anything it does should automatically be considered good and moral.

U-20: Will the Global Economy Resurface?

By Walden Bello

The Group of 20 (G20) is making a big show of getting together to come to grips with the global economic crisis. But here's the problem with the upcoming summit in London on April 2: It's all show. What the show masks is a very deep worry and fear among the global elite that it really doesn't know the direction in which the world economy is heading and the measures needed to stabilize it.

UK: Demonstrate at the G20 on 1 April

The leaders of the world's big powers will meet at the G20 summit in London on 2 April. It is Barack Obama's first visit to Britain. It is our chance to demand a change from Bush's war policies.

G20 pledges $1 trillion in funds

G-20: Welcome to the Multi-Polar World

Mark Weisbrot, The Guardian UK: "The run-up to the G-20 meeting has been interesting and colorful. President Lula Da Silva of Brazil declared that 'this crisis was caused by the irrational behavior of white people with blue eyes, who before the crisis appeared to know everything and now demonstrate that they know nothing.' His full remarks made it clear that he was not promoting biological race theories but calling attention to the injustice that the vast majority of the world, who happen to be both poor and non-white, should suffer for the greed and stupidity of a few."

New World Order: Still A Conspiracy Theory?

Wikipedia still thinks so, despite hundreds of pronouncements during G20 summit

Paul Joseph Watson
Prison Planet.com
Friday, April 3, 2009

Despite the fact that the term “new world order” was mentioned in connection with the G20 this week hundreds of times by both global leaders and in news reports, it is still regarded as a “conspiracy theory” by that bastion of truthiness, Wikipedia.

Regional Wars and the Decline of the US Empire

We are living the end of an entire epoch: Experts everywhere witness the collapse of the US and world financial system, the absence of credit for trade and the lack of financing for investment. Jubilant campaigners claim mast victory

Wednesday, April 01, 2009, 00:00

SCHOOL leaders are celebrating victory after a controversial application for a mobile phone mast – which would sit just yards from their gates – was withdrawn.

For the past three weeks, Newquay Pre-School has campaigned against mobile phone giant Vodafone, which planned to erect a mobile mast on a floodlight at Newquay AFC'S Mount Wise Stadium.

However, after a public crusade against the plans by the school, Newquay AFC's committee withdrew their consent for Vodafone's application on the stadium, scuppering the plans.

Reacting to the news, Karen Austin, chairman of the preschool committee, said she was overjoyed.

"I am absolutely delighted that it's all over now and the school can now focus on other things," she said.
